I`m doing a research paper on the foster care system but suck at thesis statements. Anyone have any ideas? It will discuss what happens to them (statistically) after they turn 18. It might also reference some statistics for when they are still in the foster system like abuse from the foster parents.

The thesis statement states your topic AND the point you're going to make about it. What point do you want to make? Do the statistics show that most of them fail, and therefore the foster care system is failing them? Or do the statistics show that most of them succeed, and therefore the foster care system is helping them? If the statistics don't demonstrate any point you can make, then you've chosen the wrong topic. You have to have something to say that is not immediately obvious.
