  • How much is this old beast worth nowadays?

Currently have an old PC which I built all the way back in late 2013 I believe. It's served me really well but now starting to show its age and I'm trying to upgrade to something more modern and power efficient before it completely die.

    Specs:

CPU: AMD FX8350 @ stock 4GHz (never OC'd that damn thing).

    RAM: 2 x 4GB @ 1600 (8GB was surprisingly spacious back in the days).

Mobo: Gigabyte 990X Gaming SLI (which I never got to SLI).

GPU: GTX Titan OG (a silly move which I immediately regret as I play with 60FPS w/ vsync).

PSU: Corsair 650 something. The budget model that I grabbed for around $80.

    Case: Antec 1200.

I think I blew-up an entire bonus of $3,500 on that freaking thing and as you can tell, it's not a very budget efficient build. I was only 23. A young, naïve and cocky guy who landed a great job and became too successful too soon for his own good and this PC was sort of a pat on my back. An 'atta boy', if you will.

Anyhow, I'm trying to get rid of this thing and build something more down to Earth as I don't even have a job at the moment!

I've set my eyes on an i5-10400F, 8GB of DDR4 RAM (I never actually got the chance to fill-up my current 8GB RAM so), a cheap albeit decent mid tower chassis (nothing extravagant) and maybe an RTX3060 (whenever they become available). I won't be salvaging any parts from my current rig as I want to sell it as is.

Sorry about the rant! I'm old, lonely and kinda bitter!

  • How to check compatibility between cpu and ram?

I understand that a motherboard that uses DDR4 would also need to use DDR4 ram, but how to I determine if the ram I purchase is compatible with my cpu? Is it how much ram the cpu can handle?

  • I am unable to overclock my 1080 ti without massive fps drop!?

Hi people. I recently purchased an 1080 ti. Upgraded my PSU to 850 W brozen. At stock clocks i have no issues. Ran the Heaven Benchmark at 1080p with 8x msaa on. I get the exact same results at stock. 140 fps. But if i try to overclock it. Even the slightest. My games crashes after 5 minutes. I added a 75 core clock and 100 to the memory. Within 3 minutes of running the heaven benchmark. My went from 120 to 140 fps to 60 fps on average. I even tried some of the games i own and i was getting 100 fps lower on some of them.

I was tempted to return it but it runs without fault at stock clocks so i will just keep it.

    Why is this happening

  • What's Wrong With My Gaming PC?

I have a Ryzen 2200g CPU and a MSI ATX B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard. I got a CPU Red light and I’m trying to figure out what the problem is. I’ve tried replacing and returning the motherboard that doesn’t work. I’ve tried taking the CMOS Battery, that doesn’t work. I’ve tried to jump the CMOS pins next to the battery numerous times, that doesn’t work and all of the above solutions don’t work on the two motherboards I’ve tried. The CPU pins work fun and so does the CPU fan. What’s the problem? I’m getting really tired of figuring this out it’s not like I can easily replace these things and I can’t afford a repair person (not like they would be any help especially Geek Squad). Also my monitor is just a black screen even though it works good so there’s no point in going into BIOS.

  • How do I get a new windows install disc? Windows won’t install?

My computer had some issues and I decided to upgrade the main board and processor to speed up the system.

I replaced the main board and processor with an ASUS main board with an intel I5 processor. I had to replace the RAM too and got 8gb of ram in the system.

I also replaced the HDD with an SSD and decided to upgrade to a recent AMD Radeon Card for graphics.

I was able to keep the CD-ROM drive and had to rig up a way to link the 3 and 5 inch floppy drives up via an auxillary floppy controller via an internal usb port as the new main board lacked a floppy controller.

I had to find a new modem that fit pci express as the main board only had ethernet.

I went to install windows ME on the system and it worked like crap. It didn’t work with the hardware.

Apparently my install disc is bad, and where  would I get a new windows ME disc?

  • Upgrading PC ideas?

Not any time soon, but maybe in a year or two, I'm thinking about getting a new PC again.  Here are my current specs:

Corsair Carbide 200R tower w/ two USB 3.0 ports up front, mic and headset jack

    Asus M5A78L-M/USB 3

    AMD FX-8300 @ 3.3 ghz

    32GB RAM

    Nvidia GeForce 970

    windows 10

Are there no new processors that allow for Windows 7?  I'm only testing out 10 because I kept getting logged out of websites on 7.  Like, I log into my gmail account, I click on Remember Me.  2 weeks later, I have to fill out my login information again to sign back in.

I never cleared my cache, never cleared cookies, never signed out.  On windows 10, the random "being logged out of websites" has not happened.  I say it's attributed to using Windows 7, a person in IT that I know, didn't know why it was happening.  When I said about using Windows 7 being the reason, he disregarded the notion.

Should I go with ryzen, or back to intel?  Just looking for ideas and input.  Since YA is shutting down soon, figured I'd try to get some ideas.  Thanks.
