Do you think I am greedy if I think my supreme duty is to myself and rest comes later?

You have to take care of number one. I used to be a huge doormat who took care of everyone else before I took care of myself and people took advantage of me so much. You can worry about yourself first and still be a kind, caring person.

Not at all. By looking out for yourself you're probably not going to end up being a burden on others - which is a good thing.

I'm reminded of that speech in the movie "Wall Street" where Michael Douglas said, "Greed is Good." Although that character was later revealed to be a bad guy, he had a point with that speech. Our capitalistic society is set up to anticipate people looking out for their own interests. It makes the system work.

I'd just add that there is no conflict between that outlook on life and the Golden Rule:

"Do unto others as you would have done to you."

Look out for yourself but don't mistreat others.

One more thing: I tend to bring the concept of family into the concept of self. I look out for my wife and kids the way I would for myself. Sometimes I sacrifice my own immediate desires for them. Why? I've incorporated "them" into "me." They aren't separate.

greedy is not the word I would use. Greedy is inordinately desirous, and wanting more than one needs. That doesn't sound like what you're saying.

You are not clear what you mean by "the rest". If you mean you don't care about other people and you only care about your career and getting money then I would say you are more lonely than greedy.

No, you are not greedy, "a little selfish", but not greedy. God should always come first. So take care of yourself, but alway consider others. Being alone and lonely is not cool.

it is the nature of human beings to think him/herself in the first place but u should balance it.if u get more than u need u become greedy, if u dont think urself then nobody cares u.there is such a thin line between these two.never go too extereme.

No. You are selfish and that can lead to greed. The majority of the people in this world think like you and that's why we're all doomed to suffer our own fate.

  • 2 decades ago

No, you are not greedy. You are accepting the reality that most people try to live in denial of. They try to live for other people, then die resentful. You will die happy.

  • 2 decades ago

NO, your first and upmost priority is yourself if you choose to live your life for somebody else

you will most likely be disappoited to say the

    least.

I used to think so but then I realized that no one else really cares about you so you need to worry about yourself.
