Why are some many people posting answers to questions about religion so ignorant of their own religion?

It's seems to me if you're going to base your life or core beliefs on something you should at least know a little about it. Whew.

Update:

I said the people ANSWERING, not the people asking.

While someone may be one faith or another that isn't to say that they don't know something about someone elses faith. BUT it does seem to be that in answering a truely serious question alot do become flippant and tend to answer in a slanted way about a faith that isn't their own with teachings of the other faith, from that view instead of unbiased from a position of having read or studied the religion from a several other sources or a very trusted one (IE an encyclopedia or such). Firsthand knowlege or from a studious background is the best answers that people can learn from rather than speaking out with the biased answer from a source that is against or considers it wrong. Assumptions on something you don't know aren't answers they are an opinion.

In seeing questions you don't know the answers to or are concepts you haven't heard of is a learning experience. Rather than spout misinformation why not sit back and learn or go look it up?

Isn't one of the keys to learning - asking. What is the harm in asking, if by some slight chance it enlightens them or other people who may happen to come across it. Don't get me wrong, this probably isn't the place to learn about your religion or how to lead your life for that matter, but sometimes a different point of view opens doors we couldn't see before.

most religious types are products of what they've been taught by friends, families, and religious leaders. however, few really have the intellectual stamina to do some first-hand research... or to even read (for instance) the christian bible from cover to cover.

however, since those same leaders tell their congregations that their Way is the True and Right way, the followers, by association, claim such, as well. when called upon to defend their position, unfortunately they are often ill-equipped.

basically, spirituality, no matter what your path, takes real effort and dedication. people, nowadays, are lazy.

It seems to me if you're going to ask a question, you should base it on something and at least know about it. In other words, example???

People answer based on what they know. If someone knows they are ignorant about something I don't think they answer.

Suhrim, please lay off the anti-christian stuff hu.

i am not as bothered by people who dont know their own faith, as i am bothered, Very bothered, by people who answer for another faith, one not their own, and the information they give out in their answers are just plain wrong, misleading, and, well, stupid.
