When will we have a 3rd party president?

Outside of the Democrat/Republican monopoly.

Update:

What must happen for a 3rd party to gain a majority and raise the funds necessary to be voted in as president of the United States.

Who Knows? I am a third party member and would love to see this. I think the party with the most realistic change is the Green Party or the Libertarian Party. If they could get 5% of the popular vote in a presidental election then they would then be eligable to recieve the same federal funds as the Democrats and Republican under the campaign reform act of 2002. They should work toward that goal first and then use their money to maintain that 5% showing.

To me, that's like asking 'when will the world end?' I know it's probably going to happen someday, but I can't imagine a scenario where it would happen.

Right now there are a great deal of libertarians in the Republican party, and I think we're making great strides to change the party. There are a number of folks who might otherwise align themselves with the Green Party who belong to the Democratic party. I think as long as the two major parties at least pay lip service every four years to the ideals of third party hopefuls, it will be very difficult to get people to leave a major party in order to vote for a third party.

Mostly likely never! The two party system has been working in this country for a long time and I really dont see that changing anytime soon.

As soon as we have a third party president, one of the two parties will cease to exist, and we will once again have two parties, so there's not much point.

If you could gather ALL those other groups into a solid front, and get $10 from each person whom belongs, you MIGHT have a chance.
