Why wasn't Abraham punished for pimping off his wife 2 times?

Instead of being punished for handing her over to the pharohs he obtained all of his riches that way. The pharohs had been punished even though they had no idea she was married. Abraham was a liar and a cheat. SO what made him so special? He didnt even preach about God to anyone.

Because God shows compassion sometimes. The same reason God doesn't strike your sorry, disrespectful asss with a 5,000 amp lightning bolt.

    Great question

I too have asked that same question. There are also several other examples. In the Bible God loved Jacob and favored him, but he hated Jacob't brother Esau. Not much detail is given as to why, but Jacob did trick Esau and cheat him several times. Then there's the apostle Paul. He used to be known as Saul and he persecuted the church, killing thousands of Christians, but then God changed him and used him to write most of the New Testament. And what about the great king David who commited adultery and murder?

In the bible, God does say, "My ways are higher than your ways." and "I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy." It is often hard for us to understand this.

But look at it this way. We are all born in sin and we are all sinners (until God saves us). As man we are not righteous and we are powerless to do any good on our own. The good we do are not our acts to God, but rather His gifts to us. It is God who saves us and makes us righteous.

None of those things mentioned are right in any way. But it's not about our good acts or what we deserve. In reality none of us deserve anything from God. But the point is he loves us sinners in spite of our faults. He loves us personally. That is why he forgave those people and proceeded to use them for his glory. He still does that for people today.

Your advantages are astronomical compared to Abraham's.

The hard work of all previous people, including Abraham, is what made all your great opportunities today.

What will the people of the future think of you?

Will you be a paragon of virtue?

    That remains to be seen.

Abraham was punished. That is why he didn't have any children until he was an old man.

How do you think Abraham feels about his two boy's offspring making war for 6000 or so years? I imagine he has his regrets. I know I have mine.
