Bush NSA surveillance -Have we left the fox guarding the hen house?

Is there a parallel to Hitler? read my answer to this previous question and comment. If you accuse me of any high crimes (liberal , unpatriotic or otherwise), without reading the link, you will just show everyone how ignorant you are!

Update:

To Ku-lok, the particulars ARE spelled out in FISA, which was enacted post Nixon ( something to do with his excesses, spying on John lennon and the like?) Clinton signed a bill expanding FISA power, but there is no evidence that he circumnavigated it. In fact, FISA has been called "seven men with a rubber stamp, Until Bush about 8000 approvals with no rejections. Bush got four rejections before deciding to just ignore it!

We've left the fox guarding the hen house and left the hen house door open. There are certainly disturbing similarities between Bush's idea of his power and Hitler's. Obviously illeagle wiretapping isn't as extreme as the murders of Hitler, but the idea of each that they are above the law and the supreme arbiter are a direct parallel.

The constitution gives the President the authority to act to protect the United States against foreign enemies. The particulars are not clearly spelled out. Kennedy, Nixon, and Clinton used the same wiretapping procedure during their Presidencies. Any Americans "spied on" were identified because the received a call from a suspected terrorist or suspect nation.

If this was truly illegal, there would be liberal's dancing in the street as Ted Kennedy read the formal impeachment charges. It's not happening because Bush didn't do anything out wrong, period.

All presidents have ordered spying. Ever heard of the CIA? The wire tapping that is going on right now is completely legal and has probably prevented another terrorist attack on America. You DO know that he is only listening in on calls from other countries coming in to the US don't you? And no one is actually listening. A computer program listens to calls and when it hears words like "bomb, explosion, attack" and so on, then a person listens.

I suspect you could make a nicely inflammatory political cartoon by comparing 9/11 to the Reichstag Fire and the Great Fire of Rome. That would tick people off more than just throwing words like "Nazi" or "Hitler" around.

P.S: Why don't we have more Stalin comparisons?
