It's sad. But what might some think of self mutilation? Tattoos, peircings, body inserts, branding? Smoking, drinking, working yourself to death or a simple put down to oneself?
There are different forms I believe as "wrong", that others might take as a right. Your body is YOUR temple. But in the meaning of deliberatly hurting oneself for that and only this-such as cutting, burning etc. #1. Self mutilation is sometimes means of punishment on oneself, #2. others report a feeling of numbness/ depression and use mutilation as a sensation they can use as proof of still being alive and feeling.
Reports are much higher on us girls. Usually more prone to secretive acts like, anorexia or bulimia,......and less prone to striking out and revolting like the boys.
girls revolt!
In my opinion it's holding it in and imploding in self destruction. And anyone in this position should find someone to talk to. Obviously the emotional scars on the inside are overflowing to the out.

As a reaction to a controlling father, I found myself exhibiting some behaviors of such when I was a child and teenager. For me it was slapping and hitting myself in the face with my hands or some other object. I think I did it for three reasons. First because I was angry at myself for doing something that was "wrong." Second, I think I did it as a way of expressing anger with my father. It's like I wanted to hurt him, but I couldn't, and as an alternative I was able to hit someone and know that person felt pain. The last reason is something I think most people feel who self-mutilate and that is a feeling of relief. I felt that I was so angry and upset that by injuring myself I could feel the pain physically, experience the wonderful adrenaline buzz that accompanied the injury and being able to calm down and focus on the physical pain rather than the mental. And yeah, I am a woman.

Behavioral Neuroscience... when a person's threshold of pain is reached, the brain releases endorphins to numb out the pain. Endorphins give the body a pleasurable feeling. That's what self mutilation is about... at least in my and some other peoples cases. Its about the easy highs, or some others have psychological disorders that lead them toward self mutilation. In the case of self mutilation in view of a sort of natural high, It's a type of cowardice, or escape from certain factors of hardships in life, or you might be an emo teenager with raging psych receptor chemicals which cause you to think that the world is killing you.

Self-mutiliation is often not a healthy thing to do. It can lead to depleting self-confidence, self-esteem, and permanent scars that only surgery could remove (or tattooes could hide them).
I don't know why *other* people do it, but I know why *I* did it. I used to scratch my legs and arms with anything blunt but somewhat sharp--namely keys, fingernails, forks, etc. I would do it when I am extremely upset and want to calm down and repress the bad feelings I was having at that time.
Years ago, in the 80's and early 90's, I suspect the females did it more....but unfortunately, more cases of males doing self-mutliation are rising. :-( It's either that or males were better at "hiding" their problems than the females were in the past. *shrug*
I no longer self-cut. However, I have slight problems with giving up self-hitting and self-biting. :-((( I am working on giving that up! :-)

with your first question: ethical or immoral as bearing on faith? Society? Sub-society? individual morality? What variety of morality are we speaking approximately? To my recommendations, self-harm extremely has no ethical foundation besides with the purpose to me this question is mindless. What morals are you going against in case you do it? What morals are you upholding in case you do no longer? i don't get that. i in my opinion experience that the only morals that remember are somebody's very own morals. Society, faith or the rest shouldn't dictate what you do or what you think. you will possibly desire to. in case you experience that it extremely is okay morally, then i assume it is no longer immoral. Is it injurious? sure. must you do it? No. I personaly think of self-mutilation accomplishes no longer something. I did that sh!t for awhile. slicing... I even went entire-hog and did the burning component. All it gave me substitute right into a heavily severe threshold for discomfort and a few extremely undesirable scars. It would not supply your discomfort a voice. It supplies your discomfort an EXCUSE and as quickly as i found out that, i ended. discomfort might desire to be confronted, confronted, excised and launched. slicing is superficial launch. it is no longer actual on account which you haven't any longer confronted it at it is source. it extremely is why you will possibly desire to shop slicing. because of the fact the discomfort remains there. My husbands palms are all scarred as much as hell and back. It would not do something. it is pointless. And sure, people experience extra advantageous as quickly as they decrease. yet that's because of the fact the sensation of "launch" is a trick your recommendations performs. once you're in discomfort or harm, your physique releases endorphins that make you experience good and bring about calm and a good attitude, practically like being severe. surely, it isn't any emotional launch in any respect. purely a chemical reaction on your recommendations. so some distance as a sin... i think it must be interpreted as one, sure. you at the instant are not meant to defile the Temple Of The Lord and your physique is the Temple Of The Lord. it extremely is why doing drugs is a sin. Piercing, smoking, tattoos... all those issues are sins dealing with that dictum.

Self-mutilation, or self-injurous behavior (SIB), is generally more common in girls/women than boys. It is often an expression of internal pain. Some girls describe it as a way of letting their pain out or a way to feel some sort of sensation because they are emotionally numb. It is extremely common in victims of sexual abuse who have not dealt with their issues around victimization.
If you or someone you know is engaging in SIB's (which include cutting, burning with lighters/matches, salt & ice, etc) please encourage them to seek professional help. SIB's are generally not an effort to commit suicide, but do indicate serious problems that need professional intervention. They have the potential for serious physical harm as others here have written (including accidentally cutting too deeply.)

I don't think that self-mutilation is good for you. Some people do it because they have a low self-esteem and they feel they deserve it. Some people do it to test how tough they are, to see what they can endure. As far as who does it more, I'm not sure. I think that girls would do it more for the low self-esteem reasons, and I think the boys would do it more for tough-testing reasons.

Definitely girls, by a 2 to 1 margin.
It is estimated that 1 out of every 100 kids do it.
Many, because they are told to suppress emotion.

Girls more than boys, definitely not pleasure with pain it is more pain from within and to take away that pain you hurt yourself physically or at least that is how I felt when I did it.

i ended up in the hospital because of my nerves. i ended up using my nails to dig myself and i had blood every where. no it's not good for you. my arms are scared and i had to have then wrapped up for about 2or3 weeks. just to heal and not have people look. but they looked. the hospital on my paper work called it self cutting. with my fingernails. you never want to go through it. they wanted to keep me there. and the questions they ask are embarrassing.
