Why do people pierce their ears with those piercing that stretch the skin?

I've been wondering the same thing. My best answer is that people like to live in the moment and not think about the future. Also, it appears to me that the people that do this like to be "different" and that is another reason they do it. Oh well, at least it's not my ear!

Because it is a fashionable thing right now. I have never done itmyself, but the idea has crossed my mind. I think for some people it is a cultural thing--many tribes do these practices. Some even put discs in their bottom lip. For others, I think it is just another body modification that interests them.

You can stetch your ears, and then bring them back down to a smaller size. Since I've never done it, I don't know if you can get back down to a very small size or not. But I know it isn't a permanent thing.

I've done it, it's actually fun to do. It is a challenge and every time you move a size up you feel proud of your self. I know it's not like it helps the environment or anything useful, it's just a hobby that many many many people enjoy. It's also social, people with them will talk to you about them and people without them will ask you about them. Nothing wrong with them, just a hobby.

They probably don't think about that. I wonder if it will ever be fashionable in the West to stretch out ones lower lip, like its done in remote African villages!

very few people in america do it because it is their culture, but I think most americans do it because they want to feel different. Some people like metal, it makes them feel more like terminator, it also gives them a sense of power of others have metal spikes coming out of their wrist bands, but the biggest cause would half to be television with all kinds of gothic outlooks like queen of the danmed and other gothic show and movies

They do that because it's ''cool''. I have no clue what the point is. I also have no clue what they're going to do in 15 yrs. Walk around looking like a retard?

THE PIERCINGS DO NOT STRETCH EVERYONE EARS, I HAVE SIX IN EACH EAR AND THE HOLES ARE NOT STRETCH OUT OF SHAPE, MAYBE THE ONES YOU HAVE SEEN ARE BECAUSE WEARING HEAVY EARRINGS ALL OF THE TIME. I WEAR MIDDLE SIZED HOOPS ALL OF THE TIME.

Well they need extra attention that they are not getting. They might think its cool. Usually has something to do with self confidence.
