If you could view just one moment in history, what would it be and why?

I will give my answer when I either pick a best answer or put this one to a vote....Please be imaginative, and tell why you wanted to view this moment....Thanks

Update:

I would most like to see America before the Europeans came and destroyed the land and peoples. When everything was wild and natural. When bison still roamed free.

The French Revolution. The moment when the old world passed and the new was born. The beginnings of Romanticism. The birth of the modern political system, statecraft, journolism. Plus of itself it was a fascinating time, which combined the best elements of the aincient and modern worlds. Fascinating characters (Danton, Robespierre, Desmoulins...) "Bliss it was that day to be alive but to be young was very heaven."

Forget human history. What I would really want to see is the most profound moment in all existence: the Big Bang. Unfortunately, I'd have to exist outside the universe to see it being created, and that's just a little too much to ask. Instead, maybe fast forward a few hundred million years to the time when the first stars were being born. I've always loved the night sky, and to see these incredible things catching flame before my very eyes would be magnificent, especially when compared to relatively small and dim modern stars. It would be beautiful, utter physical, mathematical, simple perfection, transcending all the frivolities of life and society.

I could write.....ALOT of things. JFK's assassination came to mind first (but a little morbid if I am going to view something). Oh and I like everyones answers about Jesus and that time period...but I figure if I read the Bible right....the day will come when I will be able to ask Jesus myself and he can just tell me about it.

SOOOOO.......if I could go back for one moment....one defining moment. It would have to be.....being at one of Martin Luther King Jr's Speeches..(I will let you pick it)...any one.....or to march next to him....(ooh I just got goosebumps)....or even better have dinner...OK...I am going a little far. I cannot find anything that I think personally will effect or affect ME or those I raise than to bring that experience back to them.

On a less serious note: Wouldn't have minded walking in the room when President Clinton nutted on Monica......BUT that is my bad angel talking....!

The great philosopher Aristotle was the tutor hired to teach young Alexander, who became Alexander the Great.

If I could be there, watching and listening during that one session when Aristotle explained to the young Alexander the power of logic or rational thinking (or whatever knowledge it was that gave Alexander the supreme confidence to conquer the world), I'd be happy.

It's not about world conquest, I'm not into that. It's more about how knowledge, in Aristotle's mind, BECAME power in the mind of Alexander.

I would not want to witness anything significant--just a normal medieval day of a serf in Europe.

I think that while such a life would be very difficult and even vile, that such people were in touch with the earth and all it took to struggle to exist. I think it would help me to better aprreciate what I have, when I live, and to be amazed at how far we have come.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth...

    Job 38.1-7

Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said, Who [is] this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge? Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

To see God creating existence from Himself is my choice. To see the beginning is beyond imagination, and watching it would be an unforgettable experience.

The signing of the United States Constitution. It was such a monumental thing to happen, it was drawn up by some of the best and most thoughtful men in history, each of whom are heroes of mine.

The Last Supper. Then I would find out what is the Graal legend all about, how true is it, and probably I would get more answers to questions that were not even asked yet.

I would like to be present to see my ancestors coming to America. I would love to see how they felt what they thought and if it was everything they thought it would be. Sometimes I take things for granted but to be able to see that would be totally awesome and maybe I would appreciate my life more.

    Very cool question.
