When factored for population, atheists have lowest crime and divorce rates, where are your morals?

Yup, when measured against christians, atheists commit fewer crimes and have a much lower divorce rate. They also tend to be more educated. If people think that atheists have no ethics/morals... why would these demographics be true?!?

Your U.S. sample seems a bit small when you consider all religions worldwide, but I get your point.

I think that poverty is where the problem lies and religion loves to feed upon the impoverished. If you had a bunch of poor atheist, I guess they would start committing crimes as well.

Christians are humans too....Maybe it's just that MORE Christians marry than atheists and thus more numbers show in Christian divorce. Fewer atheist that marry=lower divorce rate. I don't think of atheist having lower social ethics or morals. At times I wonder how someone so educated can be so closed minded to God;..but then again I know that God puts some in a stupor and not all "spiritual" eyes are meant to be open,...at least not until the millieum, The LORDS DAY.

Demographics can be skewed depending on what you want to use them for. I can only speak for myself though. I've never been convicted of a crime, haven't been divorced, don't drink, don't do drugs- none of that fun immoral stuff. I have a BA degree and will continue in my education once I start a family and gain some more confidence in my profession. This obviously isn't meant for me to brag or disprove your findings. I just want to show that there are always rule breakers. To say that people think atheists have no ethics or morals is erroneous. Atheists can and do have morals- they're just different and for different reasons.

When are people going to learn that in this age of technology, with computers doing most of the math, "demographics" can be skewed to reflect any value that the "statistician" wants to promote? I don't believe in surveys or polls anymore. I've seen the truth behind the scenes on too many occcasions. What little yellow rag of a magazine did you find your data in? Furthermore, morals or mores have nothing to do with religion. They belong to the public domain. This sounds like the "state vs. church" debates we hear all too much of sometimes. Just what is your point here?

I think some people use religion in the wrong way as in "god will forgive me if i am being evil". I met some really bad people, attitude against others being out right mean to them and then saying the are Christians. Christian can be the most unforgiving people. I think religion with many is a crutch to make it alright to do the wrong thing then turn around and go to confession! Great question!

I think using using a survey, poll or census of any kind to prove that your group is better than another group is immoral in itself.

An educated man that wishes to prove the nonexistence of god is not an educated man but an inflated ego that wishes to be hurtful upon other human beings who rely upon thier faith.

It's not education or religion that makes a person moral but wisdom and understanding for his fellow human being.

Do you have to believe or not believe in god to rush to aid or defend your fellow human being from danger?

Alot of people need religion and spirituality to ease thier discomforts just like alot of people find comfort in science and discovery.

A real educated person realizes that he is not educated at all and has an open mind to all things around him.

so my friend...when you ask a pompous and egotistical question like this one shouldn't you be questioning your own morals and seeking to not to further your education but your understanding for your fellow man?

  • Atheists do not believe in God.Most people who are theists (believe in God)have lessened responsibility. If they comit a crime it is Satan`s work,if they are poor it is God`s will,if they have a vice again it is Satan who tempts them and so on.Atheists on the other hand have to take total responsibilities for their acts and omissions. So they can not and do not comit crimes or divorce their spouses. They do not have addictions for alcohol and drugs. They can not evade taxes and pray for pardon.

Well it's time for the religionist's to prove that they actually do hold the moral high ground as they endlessly claim they do.

We need to do proper study and to test and discuss the results . and religionist's need to join in a dialogue instead of simply proclaiming stuff and refusing to talk sensibly.

I think it is true that people who don't go in for the sky-god thing are more likely to take responsibility for their actions.

Because people like James Dobson and Pat Robertson (May the Lord help them see the Light) want people to believe they have the moral high ground. They believe you have to have a God to follow to be moral, and it has to be their God. People like them spend their time harassing people instead of doing the one thing that could convert them, and that's showing love and tolerance the way Jesus did, not through their money-making ways of bashing everyone who disagrees with them.

Athiests are Athiests cause they are more educated, they aren't more educated because they are Athiests.

Athiests don't pretend to be anything except themselves and that is our strong point.

The Bible is full of murderes, thieves, rapists, so what do you expect.

I'm not here to put Christianity down, cause it does good in many cases, many people need rules in their life to live and then it does help.
