My cat likes to play bite me .?
She will lick me than grasp my hand with her teeth, like she's holding me and purrs loudly. It doesn't even leave a mark, so i don't mind too much now, but she's just a kitten and i dont want this behaviour to escalate as she gets older into a painful biting. how can I deter her from doing this?

You know they is one way of a cat showing affection. I don't think the cat will bite any harder. I don't think you have anything to worry about. I have a male cat that jumps up in a chair. When he does that he is asking to be rub down. And every time I do that he does that biting thing to. I don't think he means to bite he is just saying thanks.

That is so interesting. My cat does the same thing and has ever since I had her. She doesn't do it all the time just when she is in a playful mood. She has never hurt me so I just let her play the game bite me. But just like you said she licks me, then she bites me, then she licks me again where she bit me.
I guess the best way to deter her from doing it is don't let her bite you. But I really don't think she will start to bite hard when she gets older. I am sorry that I couldn't give you a better answer.

My cat likes to do this as well. Since she is just a kitten, she probably thinks you are playing. It shouldn't really escalate into anything, just look at her firmly and say "No, that's bad". You can also deter her from doing this, by just turning your back and walking away from her, whenever she begins behaviour like that.

I agree that you probably have a gentle cat that just likes to play. Some of them never graduate to painful biting, so for now, don't spoil her fun. If she gets too rough, flick her on the nose with your finger and say no, or ouch, and if she draws blood, show it to her. You can also make your hand "play dead" and a cat will usually stop.

When cats gently bite on you it's part endearment and they are also putting the scent of their saliva on you...to call you their own. But if it becomes naughty biting, the natural reaction is to pull away but i learned that you poke your finger way INTO their mouth (gags them) and they don't like that at all. Thus they stop biting if every time they get a mouthful they don't want.

Listen to these people. My Stimpy does it as do ALL cats. When it gets out of hand or inappropriate, SHARPLY say NO!!. Like all house and other training if you don't correct the pet right there they'll likely not know what the hell is going on.

Cats will lick and bite you when they're happy. It's a sign of affection and simulates grooming you.

My husband says that is grooming behavior--much as they would nibble their own or another cat's fleas. That's why the licking and purring, and why no penetration when they bite.

It's a cat.... they do what they do. It's in their nature as hunters and it's part of skill development. That's like trying a get a gopher to stop digging.

All cats do this it's called mouthing. Cats use their mouths while playing with their brothers and sisters. when it happens say "OUCH" and make an angry face. In time the mouthing should stop...

dont let her do it when you are playing....try putting lemon juice or somethin bad tasting (but no harmful) on your fingers so she won't want to bite them. cats seem to like that taste of skin, my cats lick me all the time. :)
