yes, an ultrasound can tell you about how far along your pregnancy is and give you a due date. But keep in mind, that due dates are just estimates. Your baby can arrive up to 2 weeks before or after that due date.

An ultrasound in the 1st trimester is very accurate in dating a pregnancy. By about week 20, the dating has a plus or minus range of about 10-12 days. By week 35, the range is about plus or minus 17-19 days.
Embryos start out at about the same size, but as the pregnancy progresses, there is more room for variation. A baby can be born at 5 pounds or 11 pounds, and both can be the result of a perfectly normal pregnancy. So the earlier the ultrasound, the more accurate the dating.
In the first trimester, the measurements done are called the crown-rump (from the head of the baby to the rump) and the gestational sac.
In the 2nd and 3rd trimester, measurements are done on the head (2 measurements here), abdomen and femur bone.

Yes it can.
The masurements of the femur (the thybone) and the head diameter are together the best indicators for how many weeks an unborn baby is old.
If these two indicators are masured correctly it is an even better indicator than the last period (because your ovulation and fertilization is estimated at day 14 of your cycle, but it can be actually up to 14 days before or after that estimated date!!!)
The very best indicator is to measure these two factor several times through the pregancy. This will help indicating in the end wheather the baby will come early or later...
Another indicator is, if ´the ultrasound is made very EARLY in pregnancy.
At this stage the baby makes such amazing progress, that it is quite simple to determine the week (eg if the fetus is only halk an inch long it can not be 12 weeks!!! Then the ovulation was late in the cycle and the baby is younger that the pregnanc date might suggest)
I hope this helped, good luck to you ;.)))

Yes a ultrasound can show how far along you are. There are 2 different types that I know of, one is the regular ultrasound on the outside of the stomach and the other is inserted into the vagina usually used in the beginning of pregnancy or in unusual circumstances.(problems with pregnancy.)It takes a picture and projects the age of the fetus by the measurements that it has received.

Yes, They determine this usually by looking at the fetus' femur bone. Depending on how long that is as well as how developed the fetus is determines how far along the woman is in her pregnancy. Also pregnancy is not 9 months but 40 weeks long, which can also measure nearly 10 months.

Yes, in a way. With the ultrasound, they can tell how old the fetus (baby) is. This can actually be off by a few days of how far along you actually are. A blood test that the doctor does is the most accurate way to determine how far along you are.

Yes. At every visit you have your ultrasound technician should tell you, in weeks and days, exactly how far along you are. Mine did!!

Not 100% it is all worked out on the size of the fetus.
Dr's know the average size at certain weeks of pregnancy.
But as said before not 100%

yes by following the ontogeny. or developmental time of certain features of the fetus.
