How did you decide on a major?

And do you have any advice for someone who is still trying to figure that out?

One suggestion is to take a personality test that will help you determine some careers you may be interested in (sorry, I don't know any of their names, but your school guidance counselor may be able to help you).

What I did was to start looking through the college catalog. I looked at classes offered in different majors. When I found a lot of classes in one major that sounded fun and interesting, I thought that would be a good choice. After all, you should enjoy yourself in college, and if you enjoy your major, you will probably enjoy your career.

(Incidentally, I majored in botany and have been working as a botanist for the last 15 years. I love it!)

I did it through lots of prayer and reflection. I'm taking up Industrial Pharmacy, and it's not easy (heck, difficult would be a gross understatement), but I love it. My skills were always mostly in the communications and social sciences, but my heart is set on science. I may not get the highest grades ever, but I'm doing pretty well.

Choose something you're interested in. Something you can see yourself doing twenty years from now. Then no matter how hard it is, you'll always be looking forward to something. Even if you fail an exam (which is inevitable, especially if you're studying in an asian state university), there's always that hope that you'll get past that subject onto better and more interesting things.

Curiosity about all things concernng your course is always helpful. See every subject as a chance to learn, not an opportunity to get high grades.

Gee, by your screen name, it sounds like you might be a candidate for political science or sociology. Heck, forget about school for now, why not be all that you can be and join the ARMY?! They can teach you all about Guerilla Warfare....check out the Rangers! The armed forces are so multi-dimensional; they have lawyers, doctors, musicians, mechanics, pilots, press staff, etc. They pay for your school! Seriously, you have to ask yourself what you're passionate about, what drives you, intrigues you...that's what you should study. If it's underwater basket weaving, I wouldn't major in it-just make it a weekend hobby. Some are driven by the earning potential of particular fields, and are satisfied with pursuing that. Others, take the high road and study what we're passionate about and where we can make the most difference. There's no blanket answer for something like this, we're all individuals, born with a specific destiny-so the answer lies within you.Find out your destiny, and go for it. Best of luck.

Do what's easy for you. That way you don't have to work as hard as others.
