Why does my cat talk to birds?
Whenever my cat sees a bird, she makes bird-like sounds. Has anyone heard of this before and do you know an explanation?
Wow! Such good answers though many have different reasons! I think I may have to put this one up for voting. Thank you all for your answers, even the funny ones.

If its the type of thing when they open their mouths and make a fast sort of "a a a" sound then I think I heard that its some kind of mouthing anticipation, like its preparing for when its gonna chew it and its excited. Our cats do that with flies. Its usually when they can't actually reach to pounce on it, so they practice the "death grip" by tightening their jaws and making that chattering noise.
It could be imitation bird noises though, never thought about that before, but I like the idea lol
Lol, just found a cute link of it here:

my cats do that too....it's a cat thing. Mine actually tried going through the window screen the other day when a bird landed just a little too close to the sill. Crazy cats. Gotta love 'em.

My cats do the same. I believe it is supposed to entice the birds closer so that the cat can pounce.

If she could walk with the animals, talk with the animals,
Grunt and squeak and squawk with the animals,
then your cat is practising for a part in Dr Doolittle

Yup. She's telling them that she wants to devour them. My cats do it all the time. Can yours play fetch, though?

My cats do that all the time. It's normal, but I'm not sure why they do it.
