Indonesian Earthquake.?

Why is the U.S. only sending $500,000 dollars as emergency relief after 3,500 people have been killed and thousands injured? That's $142.86 per dead person,...that's far less than the cost of being buried and there's still thousands of living people who need help. Is the U.S. really a 'super' power if it is without compassion for anyone outside its borders?

Update:

BTW...Canada, a less rich nation, is sending $2,000,000...still a pitiful amount but it's four times more than the States...What's going on, Bush?

Update 2:

Combined, the two countries are sending the amount of money to buy a condo in downtown New York! This is disgusting.

    You mention the U.S.giving $500,000.

America is the most generous nation I know they are always first to send aid in time of catastrophe," without being asked" and the aid is gladly received.

Yet when they go in to help some poor down trodden country to be set free from a dictator the propoganda machine starts up with all the stories about them just being in it for the oil etc.

There are a lot of countries in the world have any of them stepped in yet especially the oil rich countries.

Come on let's be Fair here.

Hey our government has given 3 million and considering that the Australian coffers are fairly stretched at the moment ( sending our troops to a war we have NO right to do)and for a population of only 20 million that is not too bad

Why do you think that the usa is the only country that goes in and helps

Australia gave millions and millions when the tsunami hit

And if you really want to HELP

There is always East Timor where is the usa on that NO where to be see

Sorry, we sent it to Katrina Relief.

Indonesian burials do not cost what US burials cost - the cost of living is well below ours. We can not spend the money but so many times. And usually the President will send more funds after a team reviews the actual damage.

Everyone has budget considerations even the government.Every little bit helps. We are not bound/obligated to give anything.War is costly. The government operates in the red most of the time.Let us remember to be thankful.Compassion for our fellows is a good thing and through organizations like red cross, one campaign etc.. we give quite a bit.Peace

Probably because the International Red Cross is not an Organization that is trustworthy anymore!!

We send them Money, and find out that only a little bit is spent on the Tsunami Victims!!

    So, can you BLAME THEM??

    I wish you well...

I bet our $500,000 will be 10 times more than what the UN gives.

  • I love how the US gives $500,000.00 and instead of a "Thank you", we get a "That's it". I guess add "cheap" to the other adjectives that precede American: (Racist, hateful, fat, stuck up... funny how there's American citizens from every country, but hey that's beside the point)

We're damned if we do and damned if we don't.
