Why is our Congress voting on referendums regarding religion in China?
We are a nation that separates Church and State. Why then is our Congress wasting valuable debating time voting on referendums condemning the Chinese government for appointing Catholic bishops without Vatican approval. Seems they should be spending more time resolving our own problems.

Ever since Bush got away with tax-payer dollars funding Faith-based Initiatives, which is clearly unconstitutional but no politician will touch it in fear to be painted anti-church, there has been a movement in this country for more religious or power of the church.
People don't realize how powerful the catholic church is. Do a little research and check out how wealthy they are. It will shock you. There is no way they are going to like China not 'obeying' their (not God's) rules.

You're absolutely right.
Of course, you aren't right about the separation of church and state thing. We are a nation that does not ESTABLISH a religion, not one that doesn't use religion.
In response to your email, since you're too much of a pansy to post a legit one for YA:
Please read the following and tell me where it expressly states "separation of church and state":
"Amendment I - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791. Note
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
The ONLY place the phrase is found is in private letters written by Thomas Jefferson a decade after America was founded. I suggest YOU try reading the Constitution sometime, perhaps you'll actually learn something.

What, there are problems here at home to which they could be directing their attention?
Don't you think that trying to control all other countries is more important?
