How do I deal w/ inconsiderate neighbors?
I have a neighbor who lives directly in back of us, they have 4 miniature schnausers who bark NON STOP! It's very annoying and especially bad when I am trying to get my kids down for a nap and sometimes even bed... Any suggestions on how to approach them about it?

We have next door neighbors who have an OBNOXIOUS Irish Setter. Obnoxious is an understatement. It barks non-stop. Back in 1995 when they got it, they let it stay outside and bark all day. We called the police. After 3 separate calls, the neighbors were warned that if they didn't quiet the dog within 5 min. or so, the dog would be impounded if they were ever called back. Poochie's been on a (partial) gag order ever since.
I don't know how your neighbors operate, but mine are selfish and will be damned if anyone is going to tell THEM what to do! A lot of people are like that today. Don't be afraid to utilize the law to your full advantage. Visit your city hall's homepage under law enforcement to further educate yourself. If you fear retaliation or have any other concerns, speak with an officer or go to your police dept. Don't be BULLIED. I'm currently involved with an ATV situation on private property right across the street from me and am getting good results thanks to working with the law. Best of luck to you and your family.
P.S. I had a miniature schnauzer for 11 years. He was very spirited and loving and QUIET! It is all in the way you raise them.

Go over and talk to them, first. Calmly explain your dilemma. Most times the neighbors will take care of the dogs. If the problem persists, then I would suggest calling the local authorities. I know it's harse, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

be very nice when you approach them
ask if they could "do you a favour" by trying to keep their dogs from barking outside because you have kids
"the old saying you will get more flies with honey than vinegar" applies
I'm not sure why you want flies but that is the saying ;)

set out some fliers on that procudure where they cut the animals vocal cords, is an option. to extreme. anyone who has four miniature any kind of dog, schanausers has gotta be one beer short of a six pack. you could file a complaint with local police but i don't they'd be really receptive to feedback. is this an ederly couple ? who in gods name wants four hyper, nervous dogs. you could try dicussing the problem with them but again i don't think they'd be receptive, back to the fliers. or move.

invite them around for a drink on evening then you know there going to be barking. That way, next time they start barking they can hear the noise themselfs.

If it is after 10pm, call the cops for violating the noise ordinance (10pm is when most start in residential areas).
