I wish I had not written 'shortest'. I did not mean 'shortest' in the literal sense. I simple meant, please don't post 3 pages from the web. The answer may be expressed in a few meaningful sentence. And most of you have done just that.

"I." Add a verb to it to hear the difference. "He is taller than I am" or "He is taller than me am." Obviously "I" sounds correct.

Correct answer is B. I.
Why? I is a pronoun. Pronouns come in 3 cases:
1) Subject (I, you, he, she, it, we and they)
2) Object
3) Possessive
Subject pronouns are used when the pronoun is the "subject" of the sentence; as in the sentence under consideration. Therefore the correct answer is; "He is taller than I." since Me is not a subject pronoun. By the way, grammatically the sentence should read; "He is taller than I am." according to my source.

Try copying the first part of the sentence after the possible pronoun. So...He is taller than I am tall or He is taller than me is tall. It's easy to pick the right one with this easy grammar trick.

That's the most accurate explanation I've seen through all the answers.
Those saying something about turning the phrase... I think that's not a good explanation. Not what an English teacher would say. (correct me if wrong)

The full sentence would read as
"He is taller than I am" It is actually 2 sentences, He is tall, I am tall i.e. he is taller than I am tall in the english language we drop the second part of the sentence

Why? "Me" is an object, inferring that something is done to the object. (My cat hates me. My dog ignores me. My Camaro broke down on me. My probation officer is looking for me. The weight of the world is upon me. ... good C&W song in the making.)

i; because you would NEVER same me is taller than him. you would say I am taller then him. to find out wether you use me or I, turn the sentence around...i.e. Sally and ____ went to the mall. you would use I be cause "Me went to the mall with Sally" sounds very unintelligent

Always put the word "am" at the end of the sentence (in your head). There's your answer.
He is taller than ME AM?..I don't think so
He is taller than I "AM'. We just leave off the word, "am".

He is taller than I [am]. He is taller than me [am]. If you insert the verb for the second subject, it becomes clear.
