How do I stop my cats from peeing on the furniture? They have a litter box but still love peeing on the sofas.

I would try the simplest thing first. Cats do not like a dirty litter box, clean it regularly. They like their privacy, and also make sure there is not anything nearby that can make a loud noise while using the box.

Next I would also go to a a store that sells pet supplies and get a cat stain odor remover, one that contains enzymes, to use on the sofa to remove all traces of the urine odor. Just follow the label directions.

Usually male cats get urinary blockages more that females , but you may want to make sure she doesn't have one, or an infection.

If you see her going to the spot and start smelling , just say "NO" firmly but not harshly. Then pick her up and gently put her in her clean litter box. Do this as often as you can catch her at it.

DO NOT EVER hit the kitty, she will NOT know why you are doing it and it can make the situation worse.

There are a lot of tips to be found on line, just type in the problem in a search site, and look around.

I have had cats all my life and would not be a rush to get rid of her because she is having a problem.

Spray Your Cat With A Water Bottle. And Change The Cat Litter.

You have no other choice but to get rid of your sofas. They will continue to do that, because they smell where they went before. Once your sofas are removed, reintroduce them to their litter box again. If you see them squat to go to the bathroom, place them immediately in the litter box. Once they have peed in that a few times, they won't pee anywhere else. When you clean your litter box, don't take out all their urine. Leave some of their urine in there half buried. They will go to the litter box and smell their urine and know immediately that there is where to pee and poop.

I convinced my cat a long time ago that the litter box was his safest option for peeing. I used a water gun, one of those big ones that you pump. I also whacked him on the rump if I could catch him in the act and was close enough. The trick is to spray him or whack his rump only when he is actually doing the deed, otherwise, he has no idea why he is being punished. I also praised him when he used the litter box, giving him lots of petting and treats. After a week or so, he got the idea.

I have a cat too. Spend a full day with the cat and yell at him when he even gets onto the couch. Don't let the cat get on the couch at all. If the cat does pee on the couch even under your careful monitoring, quickly pick him up and bring him to the litter box. Repeat over and over. (punishment must be done immediately after the act.)

Spray anti cat stuff on the couch.

If your cats are not neutered, get it done. When one cat marks an area another cat marks over it, territorial marking. There are products on the market that eliminates the odor that draws the cats. This product contains an enzyme that breaks the urine down. Spray the product on the areas and let it soak in and then blot the area. Petzyme, Natures Miracle, and some others, I don't remember their names,

all work to break down the urine. If you see the cats go to the area to smell use a water pistol or spray bottle set on stream and squirt the cat. When you do this use a word like "no or leave it" followed by the water, they will soon get the idea. If they are not neutered, have that done as soon as possible.

Put a vinyl or plastic table cloth on the sofa and put catnip in the litter box. My Himalayan started using our bed and I put a plastic table cloth on the bed, I got tired of changing and washing linens. He stopped peeing on the bed and I no longer use the table cloth. Try different kinds of cat litter, he might not like the one your using.

They have elected it as their new bathroom. I think there is a keep pets off spray you can get from Petco. I would Try that or spray the hell out of the sofa with febreez and cover the sofa with newspaper to hide their sent. Also keep puting them back in the litter box evertime you see them

My dog likes to pee on the sofa instead! Although i punished him

several times, he will repeat the mistake after 1 or 2 weeks.

To avoid that, I put something on top of the sofa whenever nobody

using it so that he got no space to jump up or pee on the sofa!

keep them in a fenced area where there is a litter box and food etc; but not near a sofa and don't let them out they will get used to the litter box and not the sofa TRY IT
