Im a sex offender and Im on the list

I m off probation and I can be around kids as long as I do not have any control over them.

I can be with my children alone. so that is not a problem

it would depend on the probation rules

here are some sex offender support group

It depends on exactly the crime, the sentence, probation or parole restrictions and/or state law.

The crime - There are many crimes that land you on a sex offender registry that should not. Ex. drunks urinating in an alley, consentual sex between teens both should not even be included so there should be no reason why they should not be allowed around kids.

If the crime was truely in fact a sex offense and especally an offence against a child then there would probably be some sort of evaluation of the offender.

A judge during sentencing and the probation/parole department should make clear any restrictions. If they include not being around an offender's own children then the offender should consult the PO to see what he/she needs to do to be allowed to reunite. Many offenders do not have restrictions being around their own family.

If it was a serious crime and the offender is determined to be a high risk to reoffend then it is probably best they are not around kids. Dispite what politicians and media would have us all believing these types are rare.

The fact is the majority of offenders do reunite with their families. Many on the registries are no longer on probation or parole so have no restrictions except the insane laws states and communities keep coming up with. Look at the bus stop issue in Georga being debated in court. There was an article where an offender living on farmland in a rural area was told to move because he was too close to a school bus stop even though the only children who used it were his own children who he lived with.

The whole problem with this country is they hear "sex offender" and go nuts. When in fact most offenders are no longer dangerous.

I think if the psychiactrists and courts determine an offender is safe enough to live with their own children then they should not be on the registry anyway.

An offender who still has restrictions should have them all in writing from their PO. If not get it in writing from the PO. A PO in most states can increase or decrease restrictions except those imposed at sentenceing or required by law.

I would also suggest an offender who is allowed around children to not do so unless there are other adults around. All it takes is an accusation for an offender to be back in jail.

Ususally they have to be evaluated by a therepist and have to be succesfully completeng treatment, and only then if the kids were not the victims in the case. I think it also depends on what the original crime was. Some people are on the sex offender list for having sex with there 16 year old girlfriend when they were 18, so they are not all the same.

I don't think any sex offender should be around any kids for any period of time alone. If you are concerned for yourself, contact you local police dept.

If it is some other children that you are concerned about try this:

Do a local search for sex offenders in your area and if the person is still listed on there....if so, just call the police and make a "concerned call" After they come and check it out, then they should you let you know if the person is in the clear or whatever.

But like I said earlier..I think NO sex offender should be around any children

Sex offenders SHOULD NOT be around kids. I dont care how much therapy they have or what they say. They are still perverts and should not be anywhere near children. You are supposed to be notified when a convicted sex offender moves into your neighborhood.
