What is the literal meeting of "bite me"?
Being old as dirt, when I ask the meaning folks just just laugh. Here, we're all mostly anonymous and you can explain it. Thanks.

LITERALLY, it means put your teeth on me and chomp down. FIGURATIVELY, it means what everyone has been saying in all the other answers--up yours, F*** off, kiss my a**, etc. It is just another way to insult people.

The literal meaning?
It's a request for someone to put their teeth around a part of your body and press down.

The first thing I did when I read the ?? was laugh, too. I think it means 'get real, or F-off, silly!"

All the answers above mine have elements of the truth in them; I couldn't pick just one, or say it better myself.

good question...i've always wondered...
i'd guess the origin is close to the same as "blow me," "eat me," etc. - sexually insulting, but "nicer"...
i've looked for origins, but to no avail...maybe the OED can get to work on this for the next editition? lol ; )

It's a sex thing, like "eat me," or "Suck me," except anybody can use it... I think.
Or maybe they figure you can't actually hit, or kick, or wrestle well enough to deal any damage, so if you're trying to start a fight, you'll have to use your teeth, like a little kid. I'm pretty sure it's a sex thing though.
