Is America illiterate or just the people on Yahoo answers?

A lot of people on Yahoo Answers are not American, and you misspelled illiterate yourself, so

1) Yahoo appears to be very popular in regions of the world where english is not the first language.

2) There are a lot of people that have little regard for double-checking their work, in emails, message boards, even in school assignments. People type it up too fast and don't go back to fix mistakes.

3) Most people are on Windows probably using Internet Explorer. It doesn't have an easy-to-use spell check built in like Safari on MacOS X does, in fact all text fields automatically receive the system-wide spell check service on MacOS X.

I think those are the major reasons. And Americans are lazy.

It's not just Americans answering these questions. There are people from all over the world asking and answering questions on this site. Some people, regardless of where they are from, can't speak english or spell well.

The United States of America is the laziest nation. I should know, I live there. We go to stores and ride around on little motorized vehicles while we shop so we don't have to walk. We have our pizza delivered to us. We're just lazy!
