I need an opinion on a professional decision in education. What do you guys think?

If you were independantly wealthy and never had to worry about developing your resume, which of the two paths would you choose, if either? It has been my experience that my passion for whichever particular educational role I'm playing at a time seems to open the greatest networking doors for me. I went from private school assistant teacher to co-founding public school director in six years by following one favorite job to the next.

Why do you need to do either? With the licensure you already have, I would think you could find a job easily. Are you wanting to make a change? Is this an issue of being required to get a master's degree? The Nat. Board Cert. should be enough to get you a job almost anywhere. It also depends on how many years you have until retirement. All the areas you are looking at are very different. I can't imagine needing a master's in library science to be media specialist in an elem. Ours is a para position! It depends on how much time and money you want to spend. Is this being paid for in part or in whole by the district? That could make a difference.since the direction with nat.bd. cert will cost you for that and for the subsequent master's. If all things are equal, then you just have to decide which area interests you more.

A friend of mine just left the class room and became a media specialist. She loves the job. She can keep her temporary license by taking at least 6 credit hours a year, so she is taking two classes each summer. She likes the variety of activities as a media specialist, and enjoys helping lots of different kids find information or learn to use the computers.

Which causes the least regret?

If they are about equal, then look at your OTHER life goals and interests. Which one will best further your pursuit of your personal life goals, hobbies, etc.?

Take the job and go to school at night so the school can pay for it. Take whatever you can ..the free education is yours so take advantage of it
