if animals don't have souls, can anyone explain Propverbs 12:10?
"A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast..."
The word translated into English Bibles as "life" in this verse is in the original Hebrew "nephesh", which literally means soul.
"A righteous man regardeth the nephesh (soul) of his beast..."
I've seen a lot of answers saying animals don't have souls and i'm wondering if anyone has ever noticed the Bible's answer to this question, beyond the descriptions of animals in Heaven - lion laying down with the lamb, etc., and the fact that in the Garden, God told Adam and Eve to "take care of the earth and the animals."
Didn't there have to be a reason for this? Do you see a bigger picture going on, or do you think animals are just learning props for humanity's journey?

WOW, I don't have an answer but I will comment. I believe both in God and that animals have souls. I have never heard or noticed this verse but I thank you ever so much for putting this out there. I indeed will study this because I cannot stand that people think animals basically serve no purpose other than food. I would be very interested if someone actually had a valid explanation to your question...
Historical fiction... Please... Thats to funny.. Actually not funny at all but we all have the right to think as we wish..

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I work with animals everyday of my life. I also have to euthanize animals that are sick and maimed. I believe that everything around us has a value and worth. I believe that man and beast a like have souls. Dog is God back wards and what else can I say but for any one that doesnt have respect for animals and who dont treat them with kindness and respect I think that their judgment will be much harsher because animals are truly innocent. They were placed here to be our companions. Thank you for asking such a lovely and insightful question.

Great question!!! I am a big animal lover (fostering my sister's cat while she is in Iraq), I have Gabby's (Sis's), Tummy (bottle fed orphaned about 5 years ago) Zipper (10 month old former feral kitten), her 4 babies (2 weeks - she was kidnapped by my upstairs neighbor when he opened my window and picked her up to let her go outside) and lastly Puddy (9 week old orphaned kitten that was hand raised (he doesn't know he's a cat) I grew up with many animals from Bunnies, Birds, cats and dogs. The hardest thing is to watch them be in pain and die, so knowing that they have a place to go is always comforting.
