How can I get into top physical condition for the military?
Well, I have pretty much decided to join the military, and I need help getting into shape. Currently I am 6' tall and 145 pounds, but i need to become a lot more muscular quickly, and was hoping maybe someone could help.

Start off slowly so you don't get discouraged...........Run, lift weights, run, lift weights, rin, lift weights...........In no time you will be in top shape and God bless you for volunteering to defend our country.......................

run a lot (at least two miles at a time), hit the weights, and do a lot of ab workouts. As you join, they won't expect you to be able to do much, so everything you do befopre you join will put you ahead of the game. Drill Sergeants will help you work on whatever you need to focus on once you are in. You are not expected to be in top physical shape when you get there, but to pass your PT test (for the army anyway, and depending on your age), expect to have to do 50-60 pushups, 50-60 situps (in two minutes each event), and complete a two-mile run in under 16 minutes (again, depending on your age).

You are good to go. Don't worry too much about the muscular part. For the Army, you need to do 42 push ups, 52 sit ups, and run 2 miles in 15:56 at the end of basic training. You are in a good position to join. Remember most people now days are fat so the Army has had to adapt to this problem. Go for it, you will not regret it.

well, watching what you eat would be a good start. Also, staying hydrated is a good thing. The best way to get into to shape and, I'm not sure how long you have to join, but to get good at an excercise, you need to practice that excercise as much as you can. 50 pushups, situps, and a 1 1/2 mile run 3 times a day. Before each meal. But eat healthy. Get a physical and discuss your regiment with a doctor as well.

I would go for endurance training. You won't be doing a lot of massive lifting. When I went to Parris Island, I was overweight by 20 pounds, although I lost 15 getting ready for it. The good thing was, I could run all day long, although my pull-ups needed some work.
I started by running one mile a day on the track at my high school, and increased it by one lap per week (4 laps = 1mile), until I could run five miles at a time, and then worked on increasing my speed until I was running 8 minute miles for five miles. When it came time to do my initial pt test at parris island, i was able to crank off 20:30 for my three miles.
I definitely recomend hig rep excercises, and weight lifting is optional.

I recommend doing push ups, situps and the two mile run. That is what you are going to be tested on. However, basic training is going to get you in shape. If you aren't overweight (you aren't) and you are in ok shape, basic training is going to do everything it needs to do. I showed up there 5 foot 10 and 125 lbs. I put on 20 lbs of pure muscle during basic and AIT, and I'm a woman!!

What branch are you going in?
You have to prepare mentally as well as physically.
Mentally you just have to realize that you have to do as you are told with no questions asked, be a team player and stay focused and just take it one day at a time.
Physically, just get as much excersice in as you can before you go.

Run a lot, do push ups, lift weights, and sit ups.
Also, try looking into seeing what someone you weight/height type should be able to do and aim for a little better than that.

Don't worry they will get you in top shape when you get in boot camp. It's more strenuous than you will ever believe until you go through it. Former x marine (woman)

Start doing pushups and running and doing situps. those are the 3 main things they ask for in PT, Army anyway.
