Is the best answer system unfair?

I was wondering if the voting for best answer does not really give the best answer because people read the first few answers more carefully and as soon as you find a really good one you decide on it and move on? Would it be better if they scrambled the order of the questions for each voter to make different ones come up first?

Update:

I am talking about the ones that do not have a answer chosen by the asker and are voted on, best answer chosen by voters.

Update 2:

I wish now there was a option to pick the worst answer and take the 2 points back,

That would be fun!

Since the person asking the question can select the "best" answer, then there are two inequities.

First, a person can select an answer that gives them the answer they want, regardless of how accurate it is. How can an outright untruth be the "best" answer.

Second, as you point out, when there are more answers (more than 60, or two pages), then it is less likely that people voting will read all of the answers. Hopefully, these people will read at least a few in search of one that reflects their opinions, instead of choosing one at random.

I understand your point and I can see where some people would only read a certain amount of answers, But I think that those people are really not serious about learning or wanting to know of the experiences or wisdom from other people (depending on the question) But in some cases I totally believe that there should be a choice to some questions that you can take the rude or nasty answers and choose them to be the worst (only to put it out to vote) and if so they loose 2 points. That might curve some rubbish

from this great site or at least maybe teach them some manners

or not to be so cruel (If you can't say something nice don't say anything at all) what do these type of people benefit from by talking(typing) so Nasty

they should just do away with the whole voting thing, it really does not provide a "best" answer, people can go back and vote on there old answers, even if they are garbage. i say if you can not choose a best answer by yourself, then you lose the points.

Well, sometimes somebody gets the answer first and several more just copy them. How would you know who got it first and really deserves the points?
