My synagogue professional staff and members were very supportive during a rough spot in my marriage.
Fortunately, the problems turned out positive, but were it not for the love and care of my fellow congregants, I don't know how difficult of a time I would have had.
A very good group of people.

By church, I am assuming you are talking about the people in it and the programs they employ. I have a place that I can worship God and His Son in peace and acceptance. It has allowed me to ask questions about my faith and God's word and helped me to learn the answers to those questions. It has been a port in any storm of my life and the people there have loved and accepted me without reservation or preconception. In other words, my church has given me a good example of what Christ was doing and teaching.

Last sunday the music really touched me, and carried into the week. A stronger relationship with the Lord is what my church has given to me. Thank you, Lord for allowing me to know you more.

What has my church done for me lately? Loved me, taught me truth from God's word. Empowered me to do the ministry God has called me to do.
My question to you: What have you done for your church lately? and more importantly: Which is more important; Church membership or an active relationship with Jesus Christ?

R. F,
The pastor/teacher brings you the word of God, and directs those the he is undershepherding to do as he directs.
The church then has the responsibility to respond to the teaching as God's Spirit and word directs them.
The 'church' is supposed to bring the Gospel to those who God draws to them, whether in the world or at the place where the sermons are taught.
Your question has a inference that it owes the disciple. You have it wrong if that's the case. We all owe God, and we owe the one who brought us the truth of Him.

I don't go to church anymore. But when I did, they took my money, did a very boring sermen, made me fall asleep in the pew, tried to scare me into fearing god, hired a really bad pastor and preacher, and then on top of all that they made me stop believing in god for a while.

Asked my son & me to not return because of his ADHD.
(He wasn't hurting anyone...just gets a little overenthusiastic sometimes.) Then proceeded to elude to the idea that his problems are my fault because I divorced his dad (who was abusive in every sense of the word), & that my innocent, sweet child is going to burn in hell because I'm wicked.
(And this was on only our third visit!! HA! So much for trying to find a safe place in the community)
