Cockatiel question?
I noticed this morning that my cockatiel was rubbing himself on a branch. I was just wondering if anyone knew what he was doing and why? He's about two years old and I think he's male but he's never been sexed so I'm not positive on that. He was kinda sitting on the branch and rubbing his bottom back and forth. This is a serious question and I would appreciate serious answers only. Thanks much!

Congrats, you have a masturbating cockatiel! Its perfectly normal, and in fact healthy. Unless he becomes obsessed with it that is. My lovebird does about 2 times a week or so.

He/she is masturbating. I am serious...I've had birds for 30 plus years and they all exhibit this behavior from time to time. I have a had cockatiels that use their bells and toys and now, I have a linnie who uses various food items.

Your cockatiel is very normal. Since he has no mate he is doing his thing on the perch.

LOL!! CUTE!! First, if he whistles a tune, it's a boy, if it kinda cherps, it's a girl. Sounds like you have a little case of birdy heat on your hands. He/She is, is ah,,,well,, you might need battiers in that pearch!! You might say that pearch is their date!! LOL! He's fine just working out the kinks, LOL!!

I would have the bird checked for parasites. Could be he has lice or something.
