Why do we appear nicer to outsiders and rude or sometimes mean to those closest to us ??

Because we feel comfortable with those close to us. They are around us more often, so they get to see us on our bad days and our good days. We are more reluctant to show our real selves to outsiders because we are afraid to be criticized by those that don't know us very well or we just don't want to appear to be rude, whereas those close to us, they will love us no matter what.

I have the same problem.
If you come up with a good answer, let me know!
It really upsets me that my parents say: You're gonna have problems with society, later on.
But other people that know me think I'm a great person.
I'm worried about it, because I behave completely different with different people. Which one is the real me??
I'd appreciate it, if you could let me know the answer when you find out, too.
Thanx!

Because we can let our hair down with them, we know they will love us unconditionally. It is ok to vent it out sometimes on these people, as long as it goes hand in hand with giving the same unconditional love and respect they are showing you. A stranger is a stranger, not someone that you would willingly let into your emotions.

Because you're putting on a front to those you don't know and let the people close to you see how you really are or are taking stuff out on them because you expect that they will understand and stick around.

maybe because when you're next to those closest to you you don't have to pretend anything, you're just you, the real one

because you are more likely to treat people you know like $hi*t. and treat a outsider nice because they don't know the REAL you...yet....
