Do you need to report a change in your car's color to the DMV?

I live in California and I had my car repainted last year to a completely different color. Do I need to report it to the DMV? my insurance company?

Yes you should change/update it on your registration that way the color matches the registration. Also so you wont have any chances for police to give u a ticket. Check the site below and also contact your insurance company and change it with them as well. This way all information on the car is updated and corrected. Hope this is helpful.

If your registration lists the car's color you should notify the DMV of the change. Most states do track a vehicle's color though a few don't.

Your insurance company could care less what color it is, and probably has no record of its color anyway.

I would recommend you contact your insurance company and apprise them of the color change of your car. If the change in color is a concern, your insurance company will note the change on your policy.

The insurance company does not need to know the color of your vehicle unless you have custom paint that you want covered.

i would report it to both just in case, that way if you got pulled over you wouldnt get in trouble and if you got in an accident or had to file a claim through the insurance you wouldnt have any other problems to deal with.

its a good idea in order to prevent any "misunderstandings" with the authorities if there's an accident or whatever.
