They pick fleas up from outside. Even if a cat doesn't go outside, they can still get fleas. Humans can bring fleas into a house on their clothes/shoes, and fleas can often get at cats through screen windows and doors.
As far as where on their body.....everywhere. But fleas tend to stick to the warmest, most secluded places on an animal; the hindquarters and belly.

If your neighborhood is infested, then it is like the other lady said, anywhere and everywhere. They don't even have to go out to get them, they fleas can get in, they usually move through to the next county the following year. Birds, squirrelsa opossoms, raccons, etc can bring them in. Just keep the yard cut and groomed, and give your pets a bath, it does help and keep them down in the house. Flea collars is a waste of money and fleas hide and breed under the collars, so don't even bother with them , vet told me that and I saw it too. If your pet should get them, go to the vet, and get the stuff that is put on the back of the neck it is a three month dosage, and after the fleas and eggs have died, a few days later, give you pet a bath, and clean that house very well, when you vaccum, empty it outdoors and steam clean the carpet and put those throw throw rugs in the washer. Some years, there are no fleas. M 16 year old cat, even though not outside by herself only got fleas 2 times, all pets in the area had them at that time. So, if the things are passing through, well, deal with them and if your dog gets them, make sure it gets treated for tape worms especially after the flea season is over, after the hard freeze and summer is over, tape worms don't show up on regular poop tests at the vet, but believe me, fleas, oh yes tape worms are there too. Then clean that poop up too, and discard it so pet don't get re infected.

They get them from coming in contact with them either outside or in some cases if you have moved into a new place the carpet and furnitions can have them. If your pet comes in contat with another nanimal that has fleas more than likely they will bring a few home with them.
Fleas congregate around all parts of your pets body however if you suspect they have fleas, check under the arms, around the neck and ear area, back by the tail and yes even check around the genital area. Fleas are very small and brown and stay close to the skin so you need to move the hair back to expose the skin gently. I hope this helps.

the type of flea that most commonly attacks pets here in new England is the sand flea so for our area it would be from going outside, but there are different species of flea and how your animal gets them could depend on where you live. Fleas love harboring around marshy areas, and in feilds where an unsuspecting victim can trollop through

Fleas are parasitic insects that live off the blood of mamals. Dogs and cats, being furry, exposed to nature, and mamalian, provide a perfect host for parasitic fleas.

They live in the environment.
You can also bring them home from visiting a friends home that is infested.
Preventative is not only cheaper than treating and getting rid of them in the home, but also is healthier for all, as fleas are carriers of tapeworms and can cause flea dermatitis, itching, sores...not to mention the thought of larvae squiggling around in your carpet -- EWWW!

Well, from the out doors or flea's do hitch a ride on people or their clothes. So, if your cat pet doesn't go outside than more than likely they hitched a ride with someone who came over to your house.
