Why do cats like to sit on paper?

Both of our cats love to sit on paper - notebook paper, magazines, newspaper. We've always noticed but have never heard an explanation.

I know why my cat does it. She wants my attention. When I spread out my college projects she climbs up on the table and flops down.

They also may like the feel of the paper.

They just like to, My cats will also sit on anything that's made of fabric, and they also sit anywhere you have been sitting, so I guess that they like spaces that are warm or that warm up quickly. I have also noticed that it's a way of calling for your attention, like when they sit on the newspaper you're reading.

My two older cats used to love sitting on my papers when I did my homework. They would knead and purr, and one of them also loved batting and biting at my pencil while I would write.

I think they just like the attention, but they also like playing in paper grocery bags...maybe they like the crinkle noises too :)

They normally like the noise it will make. I don't know why, I'm not an expert, most cats will sit or lay on paper. Or maybe its the texture.

I do not know, but mine do it, too.

They certainly love to lay on anything that I am trying to read or work on (I think they want to be right in the focus of my attention), but they will also lay on a single, flat sheet of paper as though it was a featherbed.

They like to lay on closed books, and my shoes and sandals, too.

Some features of the feline mind remain a mystery.... :-))

good question! i have 3 cats, and not one of them fails me for that quality in their nature. Always on my morning newspaper, purring away on my homework, rolling in it. They even try their hardest to lie on a book i may be holding in my hands by curling up on my lap rubbing their face on it's corners. Even as i write this one of my kitties is on my lap, not attempting paper, but attemping to rest on the keyboard. I think it's simply another 'cute' trick that those spoild cats play on us for attention. We are sitting down, moving in calm movements with our hands, they know we won't be getting up for a while, they just can't resist it!

My Kinsey is such a pest and always sits on the newpaper in the morning when I am trying to read it.

Mostly because you are trying to read them at the time and they like to make a nusience of themselves!
