How can I transfer data from one computer to another?
I am not a computer geek but have some very basic skills. Just bought a new pc eMachine. Old pc was also an eMachine. Both have Windows XP Home Edition. Is there a simple inexpensive way that I can transfer my old files - documents and some pictures from old pc to new one?

1) USB Flash drive
2) CD-ROM burner
3) Buy a cable (ask in the store)
4) Hook your computers up in a network (it's quite easy. Really), share your c drive with the network and copy directly
5) Plug in a bluetooth device both computers.
6) Plug the old harddisk into a slot in your new computer (a little tricky, you can look up online how to do it).
7) Upload your files to a place on the internet. Download them again
8) Buy an external harddisk (you can use it for backup later)

You can buy a laplink cable for a few pounds, that comes with the software to instal. The cable plugs between USB ports on each PC, instal abnd run the sioftware on each pc, this effectively connects them together and you can select which data you want to transfer and which way to go i.e. PC1 to PC2 or vice versa.

If you have an iPod, it can be converted to store data as data, not as music. I transferred a lot with my 20 gig ipod

Also, if the files are not very large, you can hook the old one up to the internet and email them to yourself as an attachment, then hook up the new one, access your account, open the attachments and save them to the new hard drive....
