Early Bedtime?

What time do you get your kids off to bed and what time do they have to get up and get ready for school?

My Kids 11 & 13 Go to bed at 8:30/9pm & wake at 5:15 am.

Update:

Yes I have to be to work at 7am and the kids have to be at my moms before that (she takes them to school by 7:45am). I would like for them to wake up at 6:30. but that is the time I leave for work. They get to sleep in on Saturday and Sunday

I don't personally think that is early. My kids are 13 & 15 on school nights bedtime is 9pm, no ifs, ands, or buts. At 8:55pm I tell them they have 5 minutes left. This is so they can get the before bed drink, go to the bathroom, brush teeth, or whatever. They get up at 6:50am. If they aren't in the bed at 9 without being sick or something important they loss a privlige. On the weekend or no school the next day there isn't a time for bed. If they want to stay up late that is fine.

Doctors and educators say children of school age need 8 - 10 hours of sleep a night. Trust me I hear about once a week from the 15 yr old it isn't fair to have to go to bed at 9 his friends get to stay up until X time. I alway stick to my rules and tell him that is fine because so-in-so doesn't live here and they are my rules. (Matter of fact it is the same rules I had as growing up.)

My 8 year old goes to bed at 9 and wakes up at 6:45AM. My 12 year old goes to bed 9:30-10PM and wakes up at 6:45 too. Your kids should get at least an hour more then they are getting. Is there anyway for them to wake up later?

The bedtime sounds fine but why do they get up so early? I imagine it's because of school. Do they get up that early during the summer break and on weekends?

My mom always made us go to bed by 9pm..even all the way through high school.

This probably doesn't relate to your topic but my 13 month old goes to bed between 7-7.30pm every night and sleeps until 7.30am. I believe setting a bedtime and following it is very important to a child's health and development.

My bedtime, to this day, has been 9:30 lights out by 10, and alarm clock goes off at 5:45, unless some emergency came up. I don't function well if I don't get a respectable amount of sleep.

It sounds about right, 5.15 is very early. Is that because you work and have to commute. If its just them waking up ealy i'd add a half hour onto both so you can spend more time with them in the evening and maybe they wont get up at the crack of damn.

Either that or buy a threadmill to wear them kids out a bit
