Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and beginning April 20th, 2021 (Eastern Time) the Yahoo Answers website will be in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

Why is there no spell checking for the "additional information" box when you ask a question?

This section, the "Add details" does not get spell checked and it really should. Please help us not look like total fools and allow spell checking here. Everyone will thank you.

In fact, ANY text area where you expect to enter more than a few words should have a spell check option.

Update:

Last time I entered a question like this in this catagory(sp) I got a response froma team member pretty quick. It didn't help anything really, but I did get a response. Seems to me that this should be an easy fix. BTW, this "Details" boxs does not have a spell checker.

Update 2:

Yahoo does not recognize Google, that is funny and petty at the same time. They have to realize that people use all tools on the web, Yahoo and Google alike. And while Yahoo is ok, Google does tend to produce more relavent search results. Oh well, guess corporate fighting trumps the users.

I wondered why also. It should be there, in the Source box, and in the Comments box.

I also think they need to tweak the dictionary with it. Did you notice Google is never recognized by Yahoo's spell checker?. Even Microsoft recognizes Apple in their spell checker and they are certainly very competitive companies.

You're not alone here my friend.

They fall way short of the mark in the size of the domain as well.I had to stop using the darn thing because even when I hit ignore sometimes it blanks out the last three letters of the word. And I know I'm spelling these scientific terms correctly.

I'm a pretty astute speller but sometimes it's hard to proof read because you know what you intended to say and just go right by some misspellings because in your mind you know what you were trying to say.I've done this several times in my additional details.

And finally another of my old questions.

Edit:I sent my question about the improvements to the YA Team once I had chosen a best answer. As I will this on once this one is resolved.

I agree. If I'm not sure of a spelling I type it in the question box, check it, then copy/paste to the details box. There are many areas of opportunity for improvement on Y!A.

I'm pretty sure IE 7 has spell check built in. If it doesn't, or you're not an IE fan, Firefox 2.0 does. It doesn't address Yahoo's slacking, but it's a good solution.

    I agree with you....

However I really don't think that with all the languages that are used and all the acronyms that are used in the answers, that it will be possible or viable...

Also it will slow down the system a lot with the volumes that there are
