  • Why won't my Windows update icon go away?

I have my computer set up for automatic updates. I've installed the same update several times, then restarted my machine, but the icon for the update comes back soon after, telling me the same update needs to be installed.

I'm using Windows 2000 with Avira and Spywarestop running, but I don't think the conflict is there. Serious, detailed answers only, please....

  • If we can see who starred, why won't Yahoo! let us see who thumbs downed?

This is one isolated incident out of many where I got numerous thumbs down for a good answer.I've gotten at least one for every answer that I've ever given(TF) even though many of them were chosen as best by the questioner, because someone is targetting me,but back to the point.

Shoudn't we be able to see who's doing this so that we can ask them to justify themselves?

This is the most recent of hundreds.

  • Why are all of the old Yahoo! e mail abuse addresses coming up as failures now?

I'm getting 10 419 scams per day with Yahoo! addresses and IP addresses.I keep trying to foward them to all of the old mail abuse addresses, none of them are valid anymore.I even searched Yahoo! and used a new one in their site. That doesn't work either. So what is the proper address or addresses?

I don't want any Answers associated addresses, just mail abuse.

  • Has anyone seen this?It looks legit.I just received it today. It's not a 419 scam?

NOTICE FROM FEDERAL COURT. PLEASE READ.

You may be eligible to receive a benefit from a class-action settlement if you purchased and paid for a credit score or credit monitoring from ConsumerInfo.com or an Experian Entity between June 17, 1998 and December 27, 2006.

A federal court has directed that this notice be sent to inform you of a proposed class-action settlement. Records show that you entered into an agreement over the Internet with ConsumerInfo.com or an Experian Entity to purchase any Credit Check or Credit Check Monitoring (which were formerly known as CreditCheck® Monitoring Service), Credit Manager (including Yahoo! Credit Manager), Triple Alert, or Triple Advantage credit-monitoring product, or you paid for a credit score sold on a website that also sold one of these credit-monitoring products, between June 17, 1998 and December 27, 2006. If so, you may be eligible to receive a benefit under the proposed settlement.

The settlement will resolve a lawsuit over whether Defendants violated the federal Credit Repair Organizations Act or are liable for claims where the stated basis is about improvement of a consumer's credit record, history, or rating. Under the settlement, Defendants deny that they are liable, but have agreed not to make certain statements on particular websites and to provide all Settlement Class Members with the opportunity to obtain their choice of a settlement benefit: either (i) a credit score or (ii) 60 days of credit monitoring, as described below and on the settlement website. To see if you are a Class Member and to obtain full notice of the proposed Settlement, the required procedures, the Effective Date, the deadlines, your obligations, and your options, you must visit www.browningsettlement.com. This email is only a brief summary of the full notice that is posted on the website.

If you are an eligible Settlement Class Member, you have rights, obligations, and options under the proposed settlement. You have until May 15, 2007 to make your decision. Your legal rights are affected whether you act or not.

    1. Submit A Registration Form Online Or By Mail

This is the only way to get a settlement benefit of either a credit score or 60 days of credit monitoring. You will choose your benefit, and you must keep all of your registration information updated. If you choose credit monitoring, and you don't cancel your credit-monitoring membership after using your code to obtain the credit monitoring benefit but prior to the expiration of the 60 day, settlement benefit period, you will be billed at the then-applicable rate, which is currently $9.95, for each month that you continue your membership. Beginning on the Effective Date of the settlement, you will be able to register online or by mail. If you register online, your registration must be completed no later than sixty (60) days after the Effective Date, and submitted online by midnight Pacific Time. If you register by mail, your registration must be mailed and postmarked on or before sixty (60) days after the Effective Date. For more information on these deadlines, the Effective Date of the settlement, the registration procedures, and the settlement benefit, you must visit www.browningsettlement.com. Do not contact the Court.

    2. Exclude Yourself

This is the only option that allows you to ever be part of any other lawsuit about the claims in this case. You will not be eligible for a settlement benefit. Your request for exclusion must be mailed and postmarked on or before May 15, 2007. Any request for exclusion must be mailed to the Browning Settlement Administrator. Do not contact the Court.

    3. Object

Write to the Browning Settlement Administrator in order to tell the Court about why you don't like the settlement. Your objection must be mailed and postmarked on or before May 15, 2007. Do not contact the Court.

    4. Go to a Hearing

Write to the Browning Settlement Administrator to ask to speak in Court about the fairness of the settlement. Your request to speak at the hearing must be mailed and postmarked on or before May 15, 2007. The final fairness hearing is set for July 31, 2007, at which time the Court will consider whether to finally approve the settlement and a request by the lawyers representing all Class Members for no more than $2,550,000 in attorney's fees and costs.

    5. Do Nothing

You will automatically be included in the Settlement Class and give up your right to be part of any other lawsuit about the claims in this case, but you will not be eligible to receive a settlement benefit unless you submit a registration form.

To get complete information about the proposed settlement, the required procedures, the Effective Date, the deadlines, your obligations, and your options, you must visit www.browningsettlement.com. Do not contact the Court.

Please do not reply to this message. We are unable to respond to inquiries sent in reply to this email. To contact us, please access the official settlement website at www.browningsettlement.com.

  • How ridiculous is this?

This is the best answer to this question?I think not,you shouldn't be able to vote for your own answer, just like you can't in the message board I'm on now.Look at this question and the "best answer"

  • Do you think Yahoo! will ever come clean on this?

That they don't have ANY software in place to EVER overturn a violation. My troll has had nothing at all to do since I left, except game for points, and vote her own answers as best.

Back to the point,Yahoo! deleted an answer of mine(actually many) and the questioner not only gave me a thumbs up,but intended to select mine as best.It was deleted for not a question or answer.I've appealed a few,as have others. Not one has ever been put back,or points returned, for anyone on this site. When will they just admit that they can't,once it's deleted,it's gone forever.

And when will the good Yahoos realize there are way better Q&As on the web, with great answers, you can't vote for your own answer, and can block individuals from e mailing, while receiving from everyone else.

I feel bad for anyone who finds half of these answers in a search.50% of them are wrong.

  • Why do the same users continue to post questions on how to lose weight?See details?

Unless you have a medically confirmed disease like diabetes or hypothyroid, weight loss is no big mystery. The Internet and books are littered with clinically proven information on the subject, yet the same users continue to ask "How can I lose (more) weight?".

If you're exercising and eating properly, weight loss always follows barring the diseases I've listed.

Are these people just lazy food hogs who can't admit their weight problem is THEIR fault?

I train around 15 pounds over my competitive body weight, and drop those 15 pounds 6 weeks before a meet.I ony go back up to that weight because muscle mass and absolute strength can only be improved through a surplus of calories and proper training, yet I maintain my competitive body weight through the summer months for asthetic purposes

Apparently you are, this answer(you'll know which one when you click) has been reported by numerous people, including myself.

I received confirmation that Yahoo! received the complaint three weeks ago,yet they haven't deleted it.What other profanity can we use in answers? What other good reasons are there to boycott YAnswers?

  • Why do people continue to post rhetoric on this site?

Don't these people realize posting this rhetoric does absolutely nothing to further their cause?People trying to change politics should simply write their congressman or legislators. Is it possible that these people think that posting their opinion on politics and illegal immigration on Yahoo! Answers are under the impression that it makes a difference?

  • Does anyone really care if they get a thumbs down?

Say you know exactly who's doing it,and know that user doesn't have a clue as to what the right answer would be.Say it's someone with no other purpose in life but to copy and paste recipes and news articles to answers, never giving credit to the source, then voting for his/HER answer every time there's a vote.Say most of these answers are chosen as best by either the asker or by a huge amount of votes.Does anyone even look at these thumbs down and say,gee someone gave me a thumbs down, bummer?Since this is a survey, the most complete answer gets best

  • Double Jeopardy?

Isn't it about time this was amended? How is it you can appeal a ruling of the court so many times, yet be found not guilty and never be tried again for that same crime?Prosecutors are becoming more savvy in investigating criminals after they've committed callouse crimes and been found not guilty, pursuing them for other crimes in return.

Has there ever been a serious discussion by lawmakers on this subject?Or are we going to allow people guilty of high profile crimes to capitalize on them with book deals and so on?

  • Structural engineering question?

Having trouble getting a 5 1/4"x16" PSL in my area right now.Can I achieve the same rating with 3 16" LVL staggered and thru bolted every 6'(2 bolts per 6').It is my intention to use polyurethane glue such as a PL Premium or similar strength adhesive to join them, along with the above mentioned carriage bolt pattern(1/2" bolts) and nailed every bay with six 12 d nails(not sinkers, hand nails). Will I be able to do this without the addition of a 6x6 post in the center?

The engineer wants more money as a consultation fee and to come out and advise, yet zoning says they'll allow it.

,but I want to be sure.

I'm personally not prepared to pay him just for that.Application is to support a second floor sistered floor joist system for a 40' run.Obviously only engineers need answer this question.

I'd like to avoid the use of a flich plate at all costs.

  • What kind of sick individual?

Goes through someones profile ALL day giving them and only them thumbs down? Then writes abusive e mails unsubscribing from communications right after sending.Even worse yet reporting abuse that he/SHE is guilty of in over 100 posts.I know it's the same person doing this to me(Like I care if someone without a clue gives me a thumbs down!).What could make someone so sick with no other purpose in life?

I'm posting in polls and surveys because I don't think anyone can provide reference on the subject, though it should be trolls and surveys. Can you answer this question?

  • We collect personal information on this site.By law what exactly does that encompass?

Many sites claim this including this one.I know that this means they can immediately snag your e mail address and IP address because Ive visited sites that spammed me stating I visited at such and such a time with IP*******.

What other things are Internet sites pemitted to do according to this disclaimer since I know e mail is not protected by the same laws as postal mail,(I think at least)?

Please answer only if you know. Also if you know good adware software that can defeat this practice.I have ADAware 6 and Norton utilities.

I'm sick of getting spammed just for doing searches.

Isn't it about time we became the United States of America again?Stop all of this partisan nonsense.Just because you belong to the same party as someone running for or currently in office doesn't mean you should agree with everything they do or say.I don't align myself with any one party.I try to make decisions as to who will be best for this country. Can't we all start doing this?
