Hello dear!
At Socrates times, in most Greek city states, especially Athens, all young people were following elementary and high school education.
Further, there were institutions of higher and highest education.
After Socrates, dozens of University level institutions were founded, with most well known being the Academia of Plato.
Among the most important view on education of Socrates is that the person knows, what is important and the role of the teacher is to assist the pupil to discover this knowledge!

When a would be student approached Socrates to be taught by him, Socrates handed him three stones. He then gave the would be student one stone, and took the three stones back.
He told the would be student that if he were to teach him, he would expect him as a student to give three times back compared to that which Socrates would give him.
One might assert from this Socrates views education as a personal journey for which the student is responsible for the largest portion of their education, while the teacher is but a guide.
Imagine that in today's society.
Actually expecting students to learn by contributing to their own education.
