Should there be a law instated about how early you can????
Ok, I am a mom of 3, and I LOVE the holidays...but, has anyone else noticed that people are decorating earlier each year for Christmas? We had some people in our town who have the entire house and yard covered in Santa's and reindeer. It isnt even December yet!! Some of them had Christmas stuff out before Halloween. Like I said, I love the holidays, but does anyone else agree that the Christmas decorations shouldnt come out untill after Thanksgiving? I thought trimming the tree and other decorating was part of the Thanksgiving get together. I dont mean to sound mean if I do.. but goodness. Tis the season.
I feel that alot of these "extreme decorators" have lost the true meaning of Christmas.
Yes, celebrating the birth of Jesus.. not seeing how many plastic santa's and blow up lawn ornaments you can fit into your front lawn or on top of your home...

Destroy Wal-Mart. Just kidding, but if the things weren't being sold already, they wouldn't be going up.
A law? I hope not. To each their own.
Etiquette? Absolutely. I agree. Though in my family is was always the weekend AFTER the thanksgiving weekend.

You know, it's not like most people who decorate are putting their stuff up in September or something. Personally, you sound a little controlling to me. There are alot of reasons people might be putting their decorations up early, which really is none of your business.
Our family put up outside decorations about a week ago. Nothing that drastic, just garland and lights. We get comments from our neighbors all the time about how nice everything looks. We normally wait until around the first week of December, but, for the last two or three years, we didn't put up decorations at all because of financial and health problems. This year, things are so much better. As a family, we're so thankful to have weathered the difficulties we've faced in the last three years that we just wanted to start celebrating the Christmas season early this year. During Thanksgiving weekend, we'll buy a tree and decorate inside the house.
Tis the season - to not be so judgmental perhaps?

I understand where you're coming from. I get frustrated when I walk into a store and see Christmas things out too early. But I've been thinking about it and I started to wonder if it isn't because we are all soooo busy that time seems to go by faster! That makes the holiday season seem so short. Maybe these people want to prolong the holiday spirit for as long as possible. It is now mid-November. I don't think it is too early to start seeing lights and decorations. We're getting snow here. Christmas will be here in a matter of weeks. I'm ready to start seeing decorations and lights. Bring it on!

I dont think there is a problem with decorating early. Just because others do doesnt mean you have to and its their business. I'm not trying to mean that in a rude way so please dont take it that way. I live in Canada so decorating early isnt a big deal since we have thanksgiving in October. I'm putting my tree up next weekend when the local mall has Santa arriving for the holiday. I think Christmas has been too commercialized over the years, but it doesnt mean you have to fall into the trap. Getting ready for the holiday early doesnt necessairly mean being too commercial. For me it just means you enjoy that time of year and would like to enjoy it for as long as possible. I dont have much family around and because of that my parents are into Christmas like they were when I was little so I have to try and make the most of the holiday for myself and my husband. If for your family decorating is at Thanksgiving then by all means do it then and have a great time. Every family sets their own traditions. Happy Thanksgiving and have a Merry Christmas :)

I agree, but people should have a choice wheter or not they shold put their decorations up at any time! Shoot, I still havent taken down my christmas lights off the house from several years ago. But Christmas isn't about the decorations or anything else except for the celebration of Jesus's birth. (Even though Jesus wasn't born on December 25 I believe)

A law against decorating early????? I hope that this never happens. America is a free country. I actually have most of my Christmas shopping finished and I love to see the decorations around the mall and other places. It is such a happy time of year, I want it to last as long as possible. After all we are celebrating the birthday of the greatest king ever- JESUS! Shouldn't he get what he deserves.
Oh and if your schedule is anything like mine, you better get it done early or it will not get done.
And one last question. What is the difference between putting the decorations up a month early, or leaving them up a month after Christmas.

No, I don't think we need a law regulating the observance of a religious holiday. While I may agree that the season is over commercialized, it is not my affair to judge when or if my neighbor places decorations. As a Buddhist living in a Christian family, I try to accommodate the feelings of others. Who can be against love, peace and sharing? I do suggest that we all examine our actions and determine why we do what we do.
The same dose goes for the author.

I AGREE i alsoo love holidays but when i drive around towwn and see christmas decorations and its not even thanksgiving yet it makes me sad because people get to ecited and forget what the true meaning of christmas is.
In my town there is this one house where every thing is lit up and stuff and they let you drive your car around the house and they give out free candy canes but even they dont put out their christmas decorations until like december has started but then their is this other house that i know of and there is always a decoration in their yard for example right after christmas ends they have stuff for easter out al ready and that really upsets me in an amuzing way.
i think putting out christmas decorations should have a law about when they can be put out just like with blaankets for 4th of july ( in my city your not allowed to put them out until the friday b4)

Nothing wrong with decorating to get into the spirit; although it is very commercialized. I hate it when we start changing Merry Christmas to Season's Greetings or Happy Holidays. Stop trying to be politically correct. I don't get offended when others celebrate Hanukkah or Kwanzaa.

I think many people put up their decor early because they want to keep the Christmassy feeling for as long as they can. Christmas is a wonderful time of year so why not celebrate it for as long as you can.
