I haven't seen the TV ads, but most snoring requires more than throat rinses, nose strips, etc, although you can get him some of the rinse and see if it works - I'm dubious.

Snoring can be a symptom of a very serious disorder called sleep apnea, which can, if untreated, lead to heart damage and even death.

If you snore softly once in a while, then this is probably not apnea, but if you shake the house, snore like a bear, and drive your spouse to the guest bedroom, then apnea is a distinct probability. Sounds like your husband is in the second group, so he needs medical help, not poking, smothering, or kicking!

Apnea is usually treated with the use of a device called a CPAP. He can't just buy one of these - they are sold only on prescription, as the pressure needs to be adjusted to his individual needs, with too high pressure being as dangerous as too low. CPAP stops snoring 100% and usually makes the patient feel generally more energetic and alert during the day as well.

Please get him to ask his doctor to refer him to a sleep clinic right away. They usually have a long waiting list, and it's important to get the process started ASAP.

  • The product that you refer to is of little to no benefit. In the majority of cases, snoring is easily corrected by the use of a corticosteroid nasal spray - which is available only by prescription. The cost is about $50 monthly - side effects are very uncommon - and long term problems do not occur. Bear in mind - however - that snoring may be a sign of a more serious disorder - such as obstructive sleep apnea. Your Doctor should easily be able to offer the diagnosis and solution.

About five years ago, my boss was really upset because somebody didn't flush the sit-down toilet in the mens' bathroom and left a lot of toilet paper all over the seat and on the floor. What did my boss do? He made all of us males line up and forced us to go into the bathroom to take a look at it! He said, don't be shy look closely. Then he had us meet outside the hall. He said I'm not f****** around guys! If this keeps up, I'm going to make everybody clean the bathroom and if they don't like it, then they can quit! How over reactive was that?! Then a few hours later, I was in the breakroom. One guy called his gf on the phone and said out loud, '' Today the boss paraded us into the bathroom because some mother f***** wouldn't flush! That was funny, but having to look at somebody's unflushed disaster wasn't anything to write home about ! And yes, this is a true story!

Breath right has a new throat rinse and it works for my husband. Thank God! I was getting tired of sleeping on the couch.
