My husband is a meatcutter, and he said they (and other stores) go to prepackaged meat to lower employee costs. They don't have a meatcutter in stores anymore, they just have people who stock the shelves. SuperTarget is doing that too. It's getting to the point that if you want smaller portions of meat, you have to go to more specialty stores, and probably pay more per pound. How does that sound for Walmart saving you money?

Wal Mart places very high demands on their suppliers but they don't pay a lot of money per pound. A typical contract will offer a $0.03 per pound profit, which is extremely low.

The more pounds the supplier can sell, the more money they make.

This is good, because when Wal Mart negotiates the new contract, they will insist on lowering the company's profit margin. Because the company made millions of dollars of capital upgrades, they can't afford the cut and will be forced to go bankrupt.

Make sure you complain to your Wal Mart Manager every single time you see her. Email your complaints over and over.
