What is "a click" in military terms?

1 klick = 1 Kilometre
In reply to the person with the NATO answer, it wasn't a decision NATO made as it became popular in Vietnam, which wasn't a NATO action.
And the answer below is just rubbish. Almost all UN & NATO countries forces use "klicks" for distance. So to claim that "klick" came from the sighting mechanism for one specific weapon, that the majority if the UN don't even use, is ridiculous.

A kilometer.
As I understand the history of the term, NATO wanted to standardize distances in metrics, but "kilometers" was a bit of a mouthful for the soldiers, so "klicks" (with a k) became popular instead.

Actually I believe that it is spelled "klick" but that is irrelivant I supose. What it means is kilometer, the military uses the metric system to measure distance and they're fond of shortening words and using acronyms.
