Does anybody else think it's cheating?

I keep seeing people answer, and they've used Wikipedia, or they've searched lyrics.com or something. What I'm saying is, it feels a bit like cheating to me. Because I could look that up myself. And the answerer doesn't know the answer, they had to look it up themselves before they could answer. And it really irks me when a person who used Wikipedia gets best answer.

Am I alone in this?

Well, I don't like to use Wikipedia in the first place, because you can edit the page. That means whatever you find might be someone's best guess, and not the right answer. But, yes, I believe to deliberately go and look something up like the way you described is cheating. Now, if someone asks for a website link, it's fine. Such as, can you find me a picture of John Candy doing that surprised expression in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles?

I don't have a problem with that, although I've never done precisely what you're talking about. Sometimes a question tickles my curiosity, and I go to google and read half a dozen different articles. Then I share what I've learned with the asker. Yeah, the asker could have done it him/herself - but they didn't. If I find a question sufficiently interesting to look stuff up and am convinced that my answer is factually solid, why should the answer have to come from my personal experience?

What irks me is when somebody posts an entry from Wikipedia and half an hour later somebody else posts the same thing, word for word!

    I disagree with you.

We are allowed to research our answer - just look at the box where it says "research your answer" and it gives you the choice of searching Wikipedia and Yahoo. Of course, if you got your answer from Wikipedia and/or Yahoo, you should reference your source. As long as you don't try to pass the information off as something you yourself has written and you have given proper credit to the source, this is not cheating (at least not in my opinion).

If this were cheating, why would Yahoo give us the option of researching our answer. Also, sometimes, it is necessary to research the answer because you may not remember the information or your information may be scanty or incorrect. It's better to take the time and effort to research it and give accurate, complete information.

Anyone who spits infromation back out from wikipedia is an idiot.

Wikipedia has been wrong several times before, they don't give a ****, but still. I say if you do not comprehend the question at hand, do NOT answer it.

But ALLWAYS remember to cite google as your source... (gotta stick it to the man you know)

    Source(s): Google...

No, you are fully correct. If the answerer does not know or comprehend the question, then of course they would research the web and find the answers that other people came up with. Therefore, I agree that it is cheating.......however, if they research the web and gather some ideas, then rephrasing it in their own words, in this case I think it is not cheating. Some people just need other ideas to spark their own.....are you with me? ^_^ As I said, if they are copying and pasting the answers from wikipedia, then that is total plagarism!

You apparently view this site as a "game". Some people actually use this site to get information or learn things. I appreciate the fact that someone would take the time to provide correct information.

yeah, it's not cheating to use a reliable source. Its dumb to get mad at someone for using concrete evidence as opposed to somene who just has an unsupported opinion.

The people who ask some of the questions could look it up themselves.

When they leave it to my devices, I am free to do as i choose

well then why doesnt the person that asked the question just look it up? I do it to show that they could have found it on their own.

Hell yes, someone should use their own brain power, and hell no, you're not alone. Hang in there. There are a lot of Get-er-done people out there.
