Does canned food last for many years. Dispite the expireation date...don't it last for years?

Yes.
Properly canned foods will last beyond their expiration dates, but you run a risk of mechanical contamination (can failure) at some point, the infiltration of air and the subsequent oxidation of the food (no matter how good the seal, SOME leakage may occur.)
Then too, the amount of oxygen left inside the can may be tiny, but the food will deteriorate, lose "goodness", become flat, tasteless and lack nutrients.
Safety would require using the goods before the expiration date.
Best wishes!

It depends on the type of food, but generally canned foods are loaded with preservatives to make them last for a long time. Although I wouldn't reccomend eating anything past it's expiration date.

Yes they do. I've got canned goods that I've been using for 3 years and they are still just as good as if I bought them last week. I've never had a problem with canned goods expiring on me. However, I do keep them in my garage and it's pretty cool here in Illinois.

No, because cans are metal and they rust, it is very easy for little pinholes to be found in rust spots allowing the food to become contaminated.
