I have read so many different receipies re: standing rib roast I am now confused. I find different temps. different cooking times, etc. etc. Help, add to my confusion. I'll go according to the most same answers I can get. It's 14 lbs. I have 12 people coming to dinner tomorrow night and I sure don't want to botch this.

First of all, calm down, relax and don't stress about this one......take the roast out of the refrigerator about an hour before you begin to roast it:

    1) Make sure your oven is CLEAN, or you will have smoke all over the house......

    2) Preheat the oven to 500 degrees Farenheit

    3) Place roast in appropriate sized roasting pan

    4) Generously salt and pepper the fat cap on the roast....

    .

5)) Place in oven at500 for 45 minutes, then decrease the temperature of the oven to 325 degrees and insert a meat thermometer and roast until it's done to your liking...

    6) Take roast out of oven and let rest, tented with foil for at least 15 minutes before carving...........See how easy that was???

DO NOT PUT IT IN THE CROCKPOT! Please, this is fine for a cheap roast but not for prime rib. I would strongly suggest consulting www.foodnetwork.com. Recipes will vary, but here you can find the basic rules. Generally, you'll cook very hot (450-500 degrees) for 30-45 minutes. Then about 18-22 minutes per pound at 350. Emeril Lagasse just had a show on this with a great seasoning paste. Check out his link.

that is awful big . you will need a meat thermometer . i do mine at 450 for 1/2 hour then turn oven down to 300 cook about 20 minutes a pound until you reach about 140 degrees let stand 15 minutes before you carve it

that is not very nice jana, you have no idea if someone buys cheap roasts or not, the crock pot is a great way to cook any type of meat vs the oven being on all day and going back and forth checking it. especially when the asker has other things to worry about, the crock is fool-proof and alows you to tend to other things

put in your crock pot w/ all the seasonings from your recipe and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours, it will be so tender it will melt in your mouth, good luck!!
