Wow-- all the pharmaceutical buffs are out... I agree with the person who suggested you keep your child hydrated with sips of pure water and if they still have diarrhea after 24 hours, then take them to the medics. In the meantime, diarrhea is the body's quick and wise way to clear the toxins out. Try to find out what the child has ingested over the past day or so. If the diarrhea is really really intense (you be the judge) by all means take the child to Emergency. Otherwise, water, and NO FOOD. Why would you want to keep the poison clogged up in there when the body is doing a natural detox? The child needs to rest and drink sips of pure water until the toxins have been expelled. She/he will not die of starvation if not eating for one or two days, I promise. After the diarrhea is well over, start eating mushy, watery stuff first, like juicy organic fruits, fresh veggie soups, and juices. All the best! (poor little one!)

First of all does the child have fever? Or vomiting? If so, please go to the doctor. If it's only diarrhea, you can give your child a mix of water with a tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt. Fluids are important to keep him/her from dehydrating. Any fluids will help: popcycles, and soups are good. The sugar and salt will help regulate the electrolytes that are lost with the diarrhea...like "pedialyte". Juices like orange are good (grape might exacerbate the diarrhea). At any rate, I think I'd get him/her some immodium asap also. If things don't improve, you need to call the doc. Godloveya and hope the little one improves!

the diarrhea is happening because the body wants to rid itself of something-- be careful though it could require medical attention if it goes on to long-

try acidophilus- you can get it in chewable form- it is a naturally occurring bacteria- the good kind- found in the body- and your child is probably eliminating it before they have a chance to multiply- but like i mentioned - if it continues even with the acidophilus get some help from a DR. could be a bacteria that requires antibiotics to remove. and you should give the child acidophilus 4 hours after an antibiotic- to keep the good bacteria count higher than the bad during treatment with antibiotics

Try the BRATT diet - bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, and tea. Make sure she's drinking lots and lots of water because diarrhea is really dehydrating. If his/her tummy is yucky, force down some ginger or water with fresh lemon in it.

    Hope this helps!

oatmeal. The soluable fiber will "solid" things up a bit.

But if it is caused by an illness, its best to let it run its course. That is the bodies was of getting rid of the microbes that are causing the illness (by shedding the intestinal lining that the germs are trying to settle into).

The first answer to your question to use pedialite is a good remedy. There is alot of infor for this product, just go to your local drugstore.

Try a little warm milk with a pinch of cinnamon. It's an old Russian remedy.

Try giving him something heavy in fiber like bananas or crackers. That should bind him up so he won't have diarrhea any more.

Apple sauce, although apples are mainly fiber and water, the pectin in apple sauce should help regulate the movenents.

Yogurt has the live acidophilus enzymes in it to help aid in digestion.

    Plenty of clear liquids.

I did this in The Peace Corps. Have him stay in the bathroom and drink lots of water (1 gallon)--keep him in the bathroom because after he drinks all that water he will go!
