Why does a desktop computer processor need a fan, but laptops don't?
Or better yet, why don't they just use laptop processors in desktops to avoid the fan?

Actually most notebooks do have fans, they cycle on and off depending on the heat load. Also, notebooks use advanced technology such as "heat pipes" and other high tech heatsinks to dissipate the heat.
You can buy the necessary equipment to use a passive, or a heatsink without a fan for your desktop.
And some of the smaller form factor desktop computers do use a mobile processor.

Heat and performance. Desktop processors run faster and hotter thus they need more fans to cool them. Laptop processors run slightly slower and not as hot, so they need less cooling. However, most laptops still have fans. Price is the reason that you will not find a laptop processor in a desktop. Thanks.

The laptops do have a fan, a tiny one and when that one is not fanning properly then thats when you use external fans.

Who told you that laptops don't need fans? They have fans. All computers have fans. Otherwise they would overheat and burn themselves and the motherboards out.

You have been misinformed!!! they all do need a fan! Any processor is a heat generator and needs to be cooled down.

honestly it really is a fan it really is fastened over the processor to the motherboard. they grant you with the fan to be sure ideal cooling for the chip. without the fan, the chip get very warm and could go undesirable rapidly. some motherboards and cases grant temperature alarms if the CPU overheats.

they all have fans becouse the cpu gets really hot its pushing so much power through the cpu it has to cool off quick so that is y they all have a fan

laptops have smaller and more power full fans thats why they dont make so much noise
