As a general statement , do you believe that risk takers in poker are better player?

Imagine there are two people who are equally skilled at poker; one is just a greater risk taker than the other. From your own experience or knowledge, who is more likely to succeed? And also who is more likely to lose? This question applies to both casino play (when the house has a slight advantage) and head to head (when there is no advantage).

For that matter, do you find risk takers in real life to be more successful?

First off, there is no 'house advantage' in poker ever. In casino poker, the house either takes a rake (percentage of each pot) or a fee in tournament poker.

The way poker has been in the past few years it would seem that the highly skilled hyper aggressive players are the ones who do better. This kind of hyper aggression could be considered more of a 'risk taker' trait as you put it. Of course when you are talking about top professional players, the risks they take are generally very calculated. Even hyper aggressive players like Phil Ivey and Gus Hansen are not just flailing around gambling for the sake of it.

As for real life, the risk takers are often the ones that become a big success. Of course, when you hear about the risk takers, you tend to hear about the ones that take their shot and hit. For every person like that there are probably dozens who take their shot and miss.

In life the risks can have big rewards, but risk also has danger too.

That's a no brainer, risk taker w/ out a doubt= better player! My crazy old man taught me that by the tender age of 5, I have to give the man some credit, it's what saved me, many of times. But it can also destroy you in the end. So play it safe, well as safe as you can get, as a risk taker!

As long as taking risks has a limit, then it is a good thing. A lot of people never accomplish anything because they didn't dare to take a risk. If you know when to stop, taking risks is a good way to live your life. It makes you more alive in a way.
