Why do so many americans assume they are the only country on yahoo answers?

I have found that many answers by americans in the questions assume that everyone on here is american. do some people just not know that there are other countries here as well? i am not trying to cause offence here, but it does annoy me a little.

i think everyone who writes a question where country is relevant should let people know where they have come from to avoid confusion. Does anybody else agree with this?

Update:

actually george, it is not just the american site. all questions come up on it, unless you only have your countries turned on specifically. and even then, it is not always questions only from your country.

Update 2:

and i am not talking about the questions. i am talking about the answers. it cant be blocked so that other countries answers dont come up. and i would not want that anyway. the point i am trying to make is that we should mention the country we are from, if we want specific answers for a question about our own country

I understand what you are saying but you're jumping back and forth. You first complained that Americans are answering questions assuming everyone is from the US but then you admit that it's the questioners fault for not stating what country they are from in the first place. Of course the Americans are going to assume most people are asking US related questions when they don't state the country since 'we' are on the US Y!A.

I have looked at the other English language pages for other countries and I have seen completely different questions posted sometimes. Some seem to show up on all English language pages while others don't. I haven't figured out why that is but it's not really that important. I do agree that questions related to government, law, education, etc. should not be vague if the person expects a particular answer though.

I agree with you. Totally. However, I've learned from the intelligence & sincereity of "some" people that they are NOT Americans! (Editorial comment?) I have Yahoo friends from Iran, the UK, Saudi Arabia with whom I can relate better than my "fellow" Americans. Sometimes I feel that Americans think they're the BIG Guys on the block, & never give a tad of thought to anyone else. This is perhaps the major thing that keeps me on this site, because I learn so much from people in other countries. Oh, hey, did you say where you live???

Edit: How about that! I never knew you could "scroll down" to see what country the posting is coming from! I still don't!

Edit: It is NOT from California! (george) What pomposity!

Yeah I know what you mean. When it is relevant, I always specify that I'm Australian in my questions and I usually don't get too many of those answers. But sometimes I'll write a question and they'll attack me for having poor spelling or something. Recently I wrote 'realise' in one of my questions and was promptly told off by several people saying 'duh, realise isn't a word, it's realize'. I told those idiots that I'm from Australia and here we write things properly, the language is called English, not American.

Yahoo7 is australia & new zealand

thats the only one i ever go on but most of the time I 'm just about the only aussie here

but i love it that america is always there haha

but i do see your point & they should help out because there must be some problem with yahoo that we all end up altogether

If a person writes how they truly feel and is honest with each question answered i don't see where it matters what country you are from. When i answer a question i only try to be true to myself i am not concerned with who is gonna read it. Truth and honesty knows no borders or boundaries.
