Eddie Murphy vs. Bill Cosby?

We are having a dispute that I need help with. The comedy bit about you can't have no ice cream cause your mamma's on the welfare. I say it was Eddie Murphy in Raw - I believe - and my parents think that he must have stole it from Bill Cosby because he did that bit first. Does anyone have the answer for us?

Bill Cosby released a comedy stand up album in 1966 called "Wonderfulness" on which is a bit called "Tonsils" where he talks about eating ice cream. BUT it does not refer to kids on welfare...............so, I think it is safe to say that Eddie's bit is original.

Here is a link to a page where you can hear an excerpt from Cosby's album:

It is definitely Eddie Murphy. I am old enough to remember when that came out. But it's not from "Raw", it's from "Delirious".

I can't say for sure that Bill Cosby did not do that bit first but that's not really his style at all.

It was in Eddie Murphy's Delirious. That was a really funny bit but was even funnier is when his mother came up like Clint Eastwood and asked him "why you eat the ice cream off the floor" and he tried to lie about it and she hit him with her shoe and walked away! Classic! oh yeah and his all of his father's bits were funny too.

Cosby was not a Murphy fan, did not like his nastiness, i.e swearing and raunchy jokes. I like them both, but if I were to have to pay to go see one live, I would pick Murphy.
